You can't slap "growled" vocals onto distorted guitars with effects loops and call it metal. Metal is a classical/blues based genre based on guitar riffs.
That's why you call it "Nu metal" "Death Metal" "Black metal" "Speed Metal" "Grindcore" etc.. but everyone is lazy and there's too much music out there now to throw into little seperate groups, so they all just get tagged "metal".

Yeah I know; it's an extremely tired discussion but sometimes I just can't help it.

Here's 3 great ones. Only the first two could arguably be considered "pissed off" music though.

Grave D***** - self titled album (straight and to the point; conjures an eerie mood ala Edgar Allen Poe)
Nuclear Assault - Survive (you haven't endured channeled aggression until you have witnessed the opening track in action)
Sleep - (considerably rare/esoteric) try their 1 song album "Jeruselum" only after having delved into psychadelics or marijuana
Bands like Slipknot, Hatebreed, Pantera etc create music for the masses by appealing to the lowest common denominator. "Fuck off mothafucka I'll kick your ass don't ever judge me..."...Total lyrical garbage, and the music is no better (glossy production, boring riffs (if you can call them that) which fail to captivate, lack of contrast in the song structures, you name it). The music is designed to be sold to angsty teenagers. Why it is being absorbed by anyone outside of that demographic is beyond me.
--I have to disagree. A simple perusal of the lyrics page will blow this theory to dust. While Slipknot's appeal is largely based on anger- that is kind of the point. A punk like reaction to the depression of life in Iowa. I've been to Iowa, I'd wear a mask and go by a number instead of a name too if I was from there.
Pantera is nowhere near your characterization. While some songs are party tunes, or intended to get a pit moving, you're forgetting introspectives on lost loves in Cemetary Gates, a heart wrenching call for help in Suicide Note, the loss of a friend in Mad at God, the betrayal of a lover in This Love, etc.
Not to mention one of the most capable guitarists around.

Don't go confusing them with Metallica, which started pumping out 3 minute radio ditties to cash in on a few dollars more.

I like ugly bands. The uglier, the better. Which is why I'm a huge Motorhead fan. Lemmy is the ugliest bastard in music. Ugly f**ks aren't in it for the chicks. They're at home practicing when the pretty boys are nailing groupies.

You want angry? Let me send you a copy of a cd from Dirtnap. A local band here I know that tears it up live. Strait up thrash metal.

I can't get enough of Disturbed. What an awesome... in your face... heavy hitting... piss off... adrenaline rush. Love the music, but if I listen to anything aggresive before I ride, I find myself riding WAY too fast. Maybe it's a good thing?

Come on down, and see the idiot right here
Too fucked to beg and not afraid to care
What's the matter with calamity anyway?
Right? Get the fuck outta my face
Understand that i can't feel anything
It isn't like I wanna sift through the decay
I feel like a wound, like I got a fuckin'
Gun against my head, you live when I'm dead

One more time, mother fucker

Everybody hates me now, so fuck it
Blood's on my face and my hands, and I
Don't know why, I'm not afraid to cry
But that's none of your business
Whose life is it? Get it? See it? Feel it? Eat it?
Spin it around so i can spit in its face
I wanna leave without a trace
Cuz I don't wanna die in this place

People = Shit
People = Shit (Whatcha gonna do?)
People = Shit (Cuz I am not afraid of you)
People = Shit (I'm everything you'll never be)
People = Shit

It never stops - you can't be everything to everyone
Contagion - I'm sittin' at the side of Satan
What do you want from me?
They never told me the failure I was meant to be
Overdo it - don't tell me you blew it
Stop your bitchin' and fight your way through it
I'M - NOT - LIKE - YOU - I - JUST - FUCK - UP

hear me mother fucker, everybody has to die
(2x)

People = Shit
People = Shit (Whatcha gonna do?)
People = Shit (Cuz I am not afraid of you)
People = Shit (I'm everything you'll never be)
People = Shit

Sounds about right to me. You probably shouldn't speak of thrash and defend Slipknot in the same thread either.

"Metal is a classical/blues based genre based on guitar riffs."

Well excuse the hell out of me. So when someone asks what your favorite metal band is they are refering to a genre consisting of blues, classical music and guitar riffs? Ok, gotcha, see I wasn't aware of that. By the way, my favorite metal band is B.B. Beethoven and the screaming guitars.

Ticks and Leeches

Suck and suck.
Suckin up all you can, suckin up all you can suck.
Workin up under my patience like a little tick.
Fat little parasite.

Suck me dry.
My blood is bruised and borrowed. You thieving bastards.
You have turned my blood cold and bitter,
beat my compassion black and blue.

Hope this is what you wanted.
Hope this is what you had in mind.
Cuz this is what you're getting.
I hope you're choking. I hope you choke on this.

Taken all I can, taken all I can, we(?) can take.
Taken all you can, taken all you can fuckin' take
Got nothing left to give to you.
Blood suckin parasitic little tick/blood suckin parasitic little tick
Take what you want and then go.

Hope this is what you wanted.
Hope this is what you had in mind.
Cuz this is what you're getting.

Suck me dry.
Is this what you wanted?
Is this what you had in mind?
Cuz this this is what you're getting.
I hope you choke.

Anyone with an ear who listens to early Black Sabbath or Badlands can hear the blues influence. The classical side of it is more in the structuring than the actual sound, although people like Yngwie Malmsteen do go in that musical direction.
some good bands named in here, most of what i listen to. love killswitch engage, its what ive been listening too most lately. i really have to check out this Iced Earth. now just a question. why has no one mentioned MESHUGGAH? i dont know if any of you are aware of this band, but i have never, and i mean NEVER heard a group of people that can put out such 'beat your ass' music, while having some of the most impressive and astronimical musical composition skill since well, maybe dream theatre. the abilities of these guys to meld off timing riffs and beats to work is absolutely mind bogling. its like listening to a muscial math problem, and the first time you listen to it you prolly wont get it. it took me to get extremely high to get some of their songs. after listening to thses guys, everything else, no matter how hardcore, sounds so mundane, i gotta keep coming back for more.
Anyone with an ear who listens to early Black Sabbath or Badlands can hear the blues influence.
--That just might be because Black Sabbath was originally a blues band in the UK before they adopted the Sabbath name.

The classical side of it is more in the structuring than the actual sound
--Classical uses entirely different scales and modes. Completely different way to arrange any composition. It's a hell of alot more than structuring. The structure is up to the artist, the scales and modality is what defines classical from blues.

although people like Yngwie Malmsteen do go in that musical direction
--Because Yngwie is trained as a classical guitarist, meaning he bases music in classical scale, not blues scale. The structure of Malmsteen's music is not very different than anyone elses.
There have been some really good sugestions here. Thanks for all the help. :headbang
