Nice incident happened to me today. Its about 1 in the afternoon.Typical hot florida day with the sun blazing down.Im in the extreme left lane when suddenly i notice the car next to me start coming into my lane.Luckily i was in 2nd gear so i quickly accelerated out of there. At the next red light i wanted to walk over the guy driving that car and give him a nice "talk" about looking before you change lanes but decided not to do it when i saw the disabled sign hanging from his rear view mirror and he was an elderly man.Lucky for me i was paying attention when he started coming into my lane or else i probably wouldnt be making this post right now.Im just surprised how some people change lanes without looking AT ALL.Its not like i was in his blind spot.I was right next to the car.

Well for the future remember you have to "do your job" and be a good citizen.Remember to give any such person the finger soon as you get the chance

No.

Road rage is bad. Car vs. motorcycle, car wins every time.

Yeah, definitely get used to that, in fact, be prepared every day for it! Or just do like I do and stay AWAY from traffic. One of the reasons why I do 100mph daily at some times.

Right to his car or right next to his window? If you wern't next to his window atleast you were in his blind spot and you shouldn't of been there anywase. I noticed when I drive my car I mainly just use previous knowledge and a full check in the side mirror as in leaning forward to cover the blind spot. Don't really turn my head because if im in my moms car you cant see anywase, dads is a pain to see very very little, and my truck I look with turning my head but I don't drive it much.

My buddy in Florida said he won't get a bike because there's too many."blue hairs with blue squares". out on the road.
Yesterday I was cruising near my home and a girl pretty much cut me off. I was doing about 40mph. It wasn't too close but I still had to grab the brake. So I honk at her and she just gives me this lame wave like "oops sorry". Gee, sorry I just killed you, I didn't really look when I changed lanes.

This is certainly one of the most common things that happen for most of us. Happens to me every day I ride to work.

Now, as motorcyclists, how will we educate the general public? Is there no way to help people understand that if they pinch me between their car and the concrete wall that I'll die?? What happens if someone does this? Can we report them? Can we as citizens have them charged for reckless driving?
People will NOT stop doing this unless there are consequences.

I would love to hear what some of the officers on the board have to say as recommendations.
For now, all I can do is run a little faster than the rest of traffic. That way I can stay out of their way, and have all the drama develop in front of me. I will never sit beside ANY vehicle if possible. I want to either be moving past them faster than they can change lanes, or have nothing on either side of me.

Being disabled and old doesn't mean you don't have to watch your driving.

We need a petition that says you need to be retested every 2-3 years after you hit certain age or something. If I reach an old age and I don't drive so well I want to know. I'm not about to put peoples lives in danger cause I can't turn my head to look left and right.

Yes, just get used to this. My favorite is when you blow your horn when they start coming over and they just keep coming over. God that makes my blood boil.
I have dual air horns installed under the rear cowl (invisible to the outside) on my VFR. Hit those suckers and people think that they missed a semi!!! Awesome. I'm going to get them installed on my F4i too. They are great.

As someone said, the best defense is to avoid blind spots whenever possible. Stay in a gear that gives you really good power, so you are ready to zip outta the way if you need to. My rule is 'always be passing'. Don't ever be stagnate in traffic.
Be visible too! I have a blaze red helmet and always run with my brights on.

Two weeks ago, I had some idiot woman on a cell phone nearly run me down!

She was behind me as we left a school zone. As I accellerated a little bit (was going 20, wanted to be going 35) and headed for the green light in front of me, I notice that she is accellerating as well but has moved to the right turn only lane that begins as you approach the interection.
Then I notice that she's moving back toward my lane (the only lane that goes straight through the interection) and is getting closer. I gas it just a little bit but she's accelerating too (probably didn't want to miss the green light) and still coming closer. I gassed it again (since she's now 1 1/2 feet from me) and then turned around to look at her and throw both hands up in the air. She didn't even notice because she's yacking on her cell phone!!
She's now 90% into my lane with me in front of her. I just threw a middle finger over each shoulder and got the hell out of there then.

It pisses me off too. If someone is too handicapped to walk they should not be allowed to operate a vehicle IMO. My neighbour is about 75 years old, and has one of those handicapped things in his window. He CANT turn his head to the left at all. He backs in his driveway by opening the door and hanging out. As far as Im concerned those types of drivers are just as bad as intoxicated ones.

You know, as a driver, it's YOUR responsibilty to check and make sure the space is clear for you to move over and blind spot is empty. It dosent matter if there's someone in the blindspot or not, its still your job to check it. I dont understand why people still dont look everytime they change lanes especially when they KNOW there is a blind spot.

New experience for me the other day......cruising down the highway at 75-ish in the right hand lane, not too many cars around me when a pickup truck with a trailer that was parked on the right side shoulder of the road decided to pull out on the highway very slowly without looking or signaling right in front of me. I had time to react, but not much time. Luckily there wasn't a car to my left so I jumped all the way over to miss this guy.
