They really didn't chance much over the years. They changed the rear subframe from aluminum to steel in '01 or '02, the aluminum ones would sometimes crack. Very minimal changes after that. '03 got titanium nitride coated forks and a chrome mid-pipe (just before the cans). I think the only difference from '03 to 07 was a passing switch that would flash the high-beams.

Like aham said, just find one with low miles and that's been cared for and you should be fine.

I would also say that K3-K7 are the best of Gen I
as the message above says
plus starter has a slipper clutch
Note:
IIRC from K2 onwards the ECU is 32-bit

CAT on pipes, passing light switch,
yellow->clear turn signal covers
light switch gone (emergency blinking instead)
etc small things during the years

Mileage could easily go well over 100,000 miles
so think about getting a used with mileage, but cheap
at least K3 - and think if you need extras
like heated grips, mirrow extenders, tank bra, alarm
pro-oiler, xenon low beam, touring screen, front fender extender
etc
