Hey guys, I might be buying a bike from out of illinois. I was wondering what are all the additional things I need to do than a regular bike purchase?

I know for a regular one:
1) I hand over the check for the money to the individual
2) The Individual and I sign a sale agreement form and mileage form I guess.
3) If that person is financing the bike, then he has to pay off the bank and get the ownership form and sign it over to me?

Anything I am missing? What else do I need for out of state?

you need to get a form for the title transfer which will ask for the milage and price paid for the bike from which the tax will be determined. You will also have to pay for the title transfer in addition to the tax.

I found my bike on cycle trader. I conversed via email and came up with an agreeable price (in this case it was loan payoff.) I drove to his house to look over the bike and persosnally meet him. Was able to do this on a business trip. I contacted his out of state bank and arranged to transfer money to payoff loan. (If it is a local bank, take bike to bank and payoff and get title.)

I later drove back to his house and picked up bike on my trailer. He could have left town with the bike after I paid it off, but my gut feeling was he was honest.
