im trying to find a good boot for a beginner who doesnt see any track days or anything of that sort. but if i do go down i would like to keep my ankle and everything in that area( or everywhere in that matter) i have been looking at the a stars and sidi's but think they are too much and racey also i would like to be able to walk in them also and not have to take them off and carry them somehow and suggestions?

Well, the racier the boot the more it's likely to protect you. If comfort and more sedate looks are your priorities though, take a look at the Setup boots on closeout at www.newenough.com One of the mods has them for these reasons and seems to like them.

There is a definite trade-off between protection and low-key looks. Think about how far up or above your boot your foot/ankle/calf could get wedged between the foot peg or some other part of the bike and asphalt as you slide down the road and decide accordingly.
