I am shocked- just caught this in the news this evening.
A motorcyclist rear ended this car while driving on Williamsburg bridge in NYC. The poor guy got thrown off his bike over the bridge rails to the East River!!. I am amazed as I drive over this bridge so often and it is pretty high over the water.
This link shows a clip of the news report.

It was a red ZX-12. The rider was a 38 y/o male so it wasn't like it was a squid kid. He rear ended a livery cab, bounced off back window and fell the about 135' in 2 the water which woulda been like hittin concrete. He died from blunt force trauma so luckily it was quick. From what everyone says he was a great guy and had something like 5 adopted kids and 6 foster kids. I hope they do somethin for his family.

Yeah, we've got lots of big elevated flyways around here connecting the different highways. I know if at least one guy a few years ago who crashed on one (in the rain I think) and fell about 100 feet to a highway below. I think about that every time I'm on one.

damn - too bad. not sure if i'd describe it as a freak accident though. looks like he wasn't being careful enough.
If you've ever ridden in NYC there is no such thing as careful enough. I go to PA,NJ or CT and the worst i'm usually faced with are drunk drivers who i jet past. Trust me the Williamsburg bridge can be a mad house and is dangerous by car. The road conditions aren't the greatest either. Too many what ifs, such as if he was cut off or hit pot holes or gravel. Let's not jump to conclusions.

i wasn't - but the fact that he hit the car in front of him at what seems a pretty good clip just points in the direction of him not paying enough attention in such a dangerous place to ride, as you point out.

not a rider, but i guy that went to the neighboring high school from me died thursday night, he lost control in the rain and ping-ponged off trees. the car rolled on top of him and crushed his skull. he was a great guy and now he is gone. as i post this i was just hit with the realization of the event and that he will never be here again and it can happen at anytime to anyone. this is not supposed to happen.
