Got a quick question, I just purchased my 3rd bike (04 gsrx-6). This will be the first bike that will not be garage stored. I have a cover for it I am just wondering what kind of security devices they make so I can basically lock down my bike while it is in front of my apartment. I keep it wedged inbetween my car and the curb. Any Ideas will be appreciated.

I think most bikes get stolen by 2 or 3 big guys lifting them into a truck or van. If you are worried about that, get a heavy chain/cable and lock and lock the bike to something sturdy like a power/light pole or an eye bolt in cement. Put the chain through the bike's frame and/or wheel. A cover will make it less attractive as they won't be sure what bike it is. Leave the bike where it can be seen but not easily knocked over. Alarms seem to be more trouble than they're worth. No one pays much attention to them and they have a habit of draining batteries.

Yea most bikes are not stolen by just one person. Most of the time people just pick it up and take off. You can also get a front brake disc lock. Just remember to get the leash with it. It helps remind you that the lock is still on your rotor before you try to drive away.

Here's a link:

Lots of security products on that page.

The disk lock reminder is strung from the lock on the front disk to your bar/grip to make sure you don't try to ride off with the lock in place. It's quite embarrasing (no, haven't done it myself). The disk lock will not prevent someone from carrying off your bike, however.

Anything you put on the bike itself is inefficient. Buy a motion sensor and/or camera and put the bike in the vicinity.

I am not going to sugar coat this answer. It will be just a matter of time before you bike gets stolen. Just a matter of time.
:spank
Don't mean to sound harsh, but sometimes the truth is harsh. Any modern sportbike left up in the open, will get stolen.

IMO, go through the expense of getting a storage bin.

Luck to ya..

yeah my scorpio pages me when something moves within5 feet of my bike. it doesnt touch my bike before the thing pages me. its loud has vibrate also an lcd screen on the pager that tells me weather its a tilt/shock/ignition or whatever tripped the sensor. it is truely a trick item for a bike. i like to eat at restraunts when riding long rides and stuff and my friends are happy to know they can park next to me and get the perimeter protection my alarm offers... I have caught more than five so far RED HANDED messing with my bike...

Its good for 1/2 mile.
