Greetings,

It would be quite a benefit for one of the racing members on this board to make a bike prep tutorial and make it a sticky. even though every race track has it's own rules, (no antifreeze only water, safety wiring, protective gear etc..) probably 90% have the same requirements.

what are the basics? how do you use a safety wiring plier and which parts need to be safety wired to get you in the mix at most tracks. what are the key elements to a safe motorcycle and which points are the most critical to pass track inspection? pictorial step by step " how to prep a race bike" would be ideal. If one of ou cats that race all the time ever get a chance to produce and share a tutorial on the sbn i think it would hit the spot.

regards,
ma d

Ironic you should say this since I have been putting together an outline to make just such a thread. I have been considering having a new sub-forum created here in the Racers Corner just to deal with "getting on the track" and all things related to it whether track days or racing. Look in the very near future here in the Racers Corner for me to be posting informative topics dealing with getting started. :)

My main goal with going to Bike Week was a do absolutely nothing-relaxing vacation after a little bit of track time at the CCS event. I generally have crazy unexpected crap happen to me every season, this season started that way yet again and resulted in very little track time. Oh well, crap happens! :rolleyes

I ended up only being on the track 1 day, as in 1 practice session and 1 race, so my track time was extremely limited. With about 5 laps on the track prior to the 1 Heavyweight race I ended up racing in I finished 11th on tires I have had on the bike since the end of 2004 running some pump gas I had left over from last season. I was only running about 2 minute flat lap times, which I guess wasn't too bad for my situation, but I know I could have gone faster if I had more time on the track, some actual fresh race gas, and a fresh set of tires (I'm guessing in the mid to low 1:50's). All and all I had a good time, now I'm looking forward to the Midwest Regions 1st race at Road America in April, I sure hope we have good weather for once at that event! :)

I'm hoping so, too, since that will be my first race weekend :p
