Hooray for scare tactics. 500 cases and 25 deaths out of 40,000,000 applications is a very small risk for a person getting the vaccine, and pales into teeny-tiny insignificance compared to what happens if a pandemic is not controlled. Right now, this strain of swine flu is extremely contagious, but fortunately is only moderately dangerous. But each person that gets it presents an opportunity for a mutation to occur, and one small mutation could make it much more dangerous to have, in which case many people could die.

I will be happy to get the vaccine if it is recommended for my demographic in my area.

I'm sure the 20 year old girl that just died from the swine flu a few days ago over here wouldn't have minded taking the vaccine.
If you're 20 and die of H1N1, it's because your immune system is already fucked up. Jus' sayin'

when all of this hysteria first started, a group of college kids from new york were at "ground zero", i.e. the suspect pig farm in mexico. When tested back in new york it was found that many of them had it and showed now symptoms. Their immune systems were handling it just fine.
Swine flu is not something we havn't encountered before. It was the "breakout" flu strain of the 70s, many people who lived through it then or whose parents lived through it will survive it this time with no problem.
Within days, symptoms of GBS were reported among those who had been immunised and 25 people died from respiratory failure after severe paralysis. One in 80,000 people came down with the condition. In contrast, just one person died of swine flu.
That pretty much says it all for me.

No, this is not necessarily the case.

A vaccination is like an insurance policy. It is not cost-free. IF nothing happens, you will have been better off not having it. BUT if there's a real problem, that policy might save your life.

Obviously, if they can figure out why the previous vaccine caused a problem, and fix that, it would be best. But even as it stands, I would be quite comfortable in taking the small risk of the current vaccine to guard against the chance of the large risk of a dangerous pandemic developing.

... That pretty much says it all for me.
And does it occur to you that just maybe the fact that only 1 person died of swine flu that time around is BECAUSE 40,000,000 people got immunized? That this might show that the program was extremely successful? Sheesh.
