Best way to clean a chain?

1213 Views 8 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  Aenygma
Alright, I lube my chain all the time. Especially since i ride alot in the rain and always wash my bike down. Today i was checkin it out and damn! is it dirty. Thing is covered with shit. I gotta clean it off and re-lube. The only way i can see is taking a rag and wiping down every inch of it, but that will take a long ass time. There has to be a better way. Any suggestions? :D

use wd40 with the rub down. Then re-lube once your chain is clean!
They also have this thing called a chain scruber they are suposed to work really good
I'll check around and see if i can find any chain clener like that scrubber stuff your talkin about.

In the meantime i'll probably just use good ol WD. Everyone has a bottle of that stuff lying around their house :D

This would all be so much easier if i had a center stand.

They sell the scruber at denniskirk.com under tools
I use WD40 and an old tooth brush. I relube it with some Honda lube and then an additional layer of chain wax.
I went to Wal-Mart and got a metal grill ( as in barbque grill) brush. you know, the one you use to clean the grates on your cooking grill. scrub the chain down with that and relube. and the best part, it's only .97 or 1.97!
Oh no wonder... You're supposed to use an "old" toothbrush. I was wondering why my teeth were looking a little darker. Although, on the bright side they repel water really well, and don't squeak as much now.
