I've been scoping out the areas and real estate in the north Georgia area. Any suggestions? I like country living but have to keep mama within reach of civilization. Any links or info would be appreciated. I'm about done with FL so GA here I come! Thanks. Rick

Thanks! I checked some of the real estate in that area last night. The home prices seem pretty reasonable to me. What did they do 5 yrs ago? Give them away?

Dacula and Auburn is a booming area. Still lots of "country" out there but it's close enough to Lawrenceville or the Mall of GA/Buford area (15 mins drive).

It's East Gwinnett. Go a little further out 316 into Barrow County and you can build a mansion on 2 acres for $350k.

Anything up 400 (Dahlonega included) getting close to Lake Lanier is expensive as shit. Reason: Tons of businesses with HQs in Alpharetta (Exit 11 and 12 on GA400). The execs and management like to live near it and have exploded those communities. Houses in Alpharetta are on average around $250k. That's a 3-4 bedroom on 1/3 acre.

I see you're in Canton. I was checking the real estate there also. Right now I'm looking for an area. Next month I'm going up to actually look and get some hands on. What about Acworth? Looks small town but close to everything. Geez...... fun to look but damn, where am I gonna wind up? FL is sucking so bad anymore. I can't wait to leave!

I hear ya! I've been in GA for almost 3 years,moved up from FL,too.I could not get the hell out of Florida quick enough.You'll love it up here.
Acworth is OK,but prices there are a bit inflated,too.

It's all inflated prices all across north Atlanta, unfortunately. Just do some hunting, you'll find a lot of stuff. Anything within a stone's throw of Alpharetta is a sure bet for property value increase, though. Lots of corporate buildings in Alpharetta all the way up to Cumming (GA 400).

North Georgia looks like a bargain compared to here. Tell me where they still give homes away up there!

Most of the best deals on houses are in the Holly Springs area just north of Canton. I have several friends who have recently purchased homes there and have gotten very good prices. It's far enough out right now that the property values haven't sky rocketed yet but close enough for a decent commute. The property values are rising fast all over the north Atlanta communities as Atlanta grows property is becoming less available and the population is moving further and further from the city. Look for property values is outlying areas to double or better in the next 5 years.

Yeah sorry was thinking North of Woodstock and then started thinking where my friend lives is off of hwy 5 or otherwise known as Canton highway. Jasper is a nice area north of Canton

Everything Northeast of Atl, (outside 20 miles) is nice and still decently priced but starting to boom. I moved to Dacula in Aug and love it, I can ride all back roads to Braselton where I work. Braselton area is nice, but stay away from Gainsville, gangland!! Seriously look just north of Braselton up I85, land is still decent $$ and beutiful but its starting to grow, new exits & business coming and it's only a 30 min trip down I85 to ATL.

I'm still leaning towards the Acworth area. Lots of homes online. Definately priced right compared to the area I'm coming from.

I should have my house ready and on the market within 2 weeks. I'll be up that way by the end of the month to see some homes in person.

Getting my house ready, selling, buying, moving, etc. is going to be a real pain. But, in the end it, will be worth the effort! Bye, bye, FL!!!!!

BTW, A riding buddy of mine has his house on the market already. He's moving to Canton GA. Looks like we'll all have to get together and do some riding!

whats up sarasota.....? i am from port charlotte!!!!!!! i was born in ft.myers, lived in fl all my life........came to north ga....this is my new home!! i love it here!! i sure do miss the beach though, thats alright because there are many lakes, creeks, rivers, and waterfalls within a 15 minute ride from my place!! i am actually looking to buy land just across the stae line in alabama..prices are a little better, and it's still within 20 minutes drive to "towns/work" .

Back from GA!

Back from GA! I found a beautiful home outside of Canton and wrote a contract on it. My house is on the market here in FL so the sooner I sell it, the better. I can't wait to relocate. The home is great, the roads are great! The roads are a rider's paradise! I'm looking forward to this move. I can't wait!!!
