Please bear in mind this is the same chain, on the same day. I took this photo as part of a set describing sprocket wear. The chain had been ridden 240+ miles after lubrication, and ridden about a mile on a VERY dusty road before I took these pictures:

BEFORE

Photo group 2: that same chain, one the same day, after being wiped down with 85-115et gear oil, applied with a piece of sweat shirt material doubled over in my hand. About 1/4 cup of gear oil. Pulled the chain through the oily rag about 6 laps.

Wow very nice. I use engine oil on my XJ but Dupon Teflon Multilube on the FZ6. The engine oil works great but results in a lot of spatter. Did you do any cleaning, or just apply to the gear oil to the dirty chain?

Just the gear oil. The dust and spatter you can see on the rim? I'll take another shot tomorrow and post it..... I wiped that all off with Lemon Pledge and a rag. About a two second shot into the rag, and I could wipe off all the dust and spatter over about 1/3 of the rim on either side.
