Backlight Project Completed

THIS MOD WAS DONE ON MY 2001 R6 SO I DON'T KNOW IF IT WILL WORK ON ANY OTHER RIDE

DISCLAIMER: I HOLD NO RESONSABILITY TO ANY DAMAGES OCCURED DURING THIS MODIFICATION NOR DO I SUGGEST THIS TO ANY ONE NOT WILLING TO BUY A NEW CLUSTER IF THEY SCREW UP, AGAIN I HOLD NO RESPONSABILITY.

good now that we got that over with lets begin;

1. first start off by removing the fairing and head lights.
you will then see the back of the speedo, remove the three screws.
proceed to unplug the speedo (no worries your milage will be maintained)

2. now that you have your gauge removed. place on a clean surface. (i used a white towel on some cardboard).pic1

3. locate and remove the four screws in the rear of the gauge cluster (indicated by the arrows)pic2

4. lightly and very carefully lift and pry the face of the gauge off and set aside.pic3

5. locate and remove the bulb, (the one in the center indicated by the arrow)
twist and pull the bulb.pic4

6. test your LED to make sure it is working properly and determine which lead is positive and which is negetive Label with tape for future reference.

7. after determining which terminal is which solder your wires to the LED leads accordingly i used some 18 guage wire for mine.
(so you know i used white/red tracer for my positive and black/white tracer for my negative)

8. i imediatly mounted my LED so that its easier to manuver the wires for soldering i used a hot glue gun but you can use some silicone. MAKE SURE THAT YOUR GAUGE FACE FITS AGAIN.pic5

9. next locate the terminals you will be soldering the LED leads to the specific terminals are...next to Resistor #58 which will be your
positive (R58 on the board- red circle). and the negative will be next to the hole where the OE bulb came out of (blue circle)pic6

10. now the tricky part, SOLDERING if you don't know how to solder TURN BACK NOW,solder your possitive to the terminal next to R58
and then proceed to solder the negative to the large rectangle of solder next to the bulb hole. DO NOT hold the iron to the board
too long or you will need and extra 400 bux for a new cluster as soon as the solder mends the wire to the board pull away.pic7

there you go your done reassemble and plug her in and turn the key if its blue GREAT if not turn off imediatly and try to fix it you may have the leads crossed if you are unsure about it take it out and live with green

hope this inspires ya'll to take whats stock and change it

That's the backlight to your LCD display? Not bad. Pretty ballsy to swing that iron around in your cluster. Should look pretty bitchin' with the Indiglo mod to the tach. Good job.
