I just bought a 2007 FZ6 after a long hiatus from street bikes. I'm looking for some tribal knowledge on the character of this beast. It's only got 1000 miles on it, 900 when I bought it for $5k. So far it's been a fun ride.

Welcome.....you'll love the bike and the crowd that frequents this forum.
BTW, it sounds like you got a great deal on the '07 for $5,000 w/o 900 miles.

You'll hear (or have already heard) the usual moans and groans of narrow clutch engagement/peaky motor/no bottom end, but......

1. The clutch you get used to in no time
2. Most of the power is at the top end of the motor, which is fine with me
3. There IS sufficient (granted, not a lot) bottem end power.

The engine characteristics suite my riding style perfectly and for commuting, you can't beat it.

Ride safe,
Dave

Hold on when you get the rpms up over 8K or so. You can go over most legal speed limits in 1st gear alone. It doesn't redline until 14K, which is really high if you're used to cruisers. Obvious, but give yourself time to become comfortable with it and be careful not to ride over your abilities. It's easy to do.
Good luck with it.

Thanks for the info. It's kinda weird getting use to talk about running a bike at such hi revs. Reading the owners manual gives you a whole different picture of recommended shift points.
