Well I'm sure most people who own an fz don't do as much "drag racing" as say someone on a R6.. but I do have a decent story.

I'm sure you guys get this too.. or maybe it's just me.. but when ever someone pulls next to me at a stoplight in there "fast" cars, they always give me the look and gun it at the light. Well, normally I don't race with people, especially those who are in a Honda Civic with the ugly ass wing on the back and the not yet painted aftermarket hoods and what not.. cause well I don't need to prove anything to them.. I know that if I wanted to I would smoke them... but I had an offer I couldn't refuse...

As you can guess by the title here, I got next to a I would say 01-03 M3 with some 19, 20 year old kid driving with his buddies in the car. So I kinda just let him gun it at the light and I just casually cruised along and caught up to him on the next light or so...(I was on a road that has a light like every 200 ft, so I felt no need to "race him") So he was in front me me and he kept making the same turn that I was making to get home... and kept just taking off hard on the green, getting to like 55 and having to slow down for the next light. Finally we got onto a road that was open for a while.. and we where stuck behind two people who happened to turn off at the same time, leaving us nothing but open road ahead. Well as I couldn't just let him walk away on me, I gave it hell and held on. It was the hardest I had pushed her to date, and well I'm pleased with what happened... this bike is so wonderful, and I really wasn't pushing it THAT hard... Hey I just though I would share with you guys, so that if you are in the same situation, you can just let the little bugger gun it and take off, and know that if you wanted to, you could take him... :)

Take it easy guys, don't go do anything I wouldn't do.

I'm still in my break in period and find myself walking on any car that has tried to give me any grief at a light. :D

I've 1/4 mile tracked several cars of mine.

I push mine right to the limit almost every day I'm on her. Lots of country roads at my disposal.

I've practiced launches on the FZ6 and to be honest the torque of my DRZ400 makes her seem light until the I-4 is wound up to ~8k rpm.

anyway, most "hot cars" are in the 13-15 1/4 mile time. A 2003 M3 is

13.4 1/4 and 5.4 0-60 FZ6 is

11.32 in the 1/4 with no doubt a pro rider. For stop light fun it's the 0-60 that will get 'em and not many will touch you. 5.4 M3 vs. 3.44 FZ6. Two seconds in 0-60 is an eternity and about 300 feet of "hap, hap, happy" real estate.

In the 1/4 even with an inexperienced launch and mushy shifts x2 should give anybody the ability to turn low 12's. You can pull close to 118 in third, save the shifts, keep the right wrist pegged. Some hot Supra's or built vettes that the guys know what they are doing might take you in the 1/4. For the average ricer, he'll need more than a coffee can exhaust and his black fake carbon fiber hood to best ya. Then there is blowing bottle though, if they NOS and know when to flip it, it can really walk away from you too. They won't be flippin' that at the stop lights.

Great post :D

You could probably stall the bike on launch, start in 3rd and still take the average ricer in a Civic before the 1/8th. :grinbounc

hehehe

I used to do that to stock sounding mustangs all the time. With my twin turbo Supra MKIV. Had it all suspensioned out, stock drive train. Would let the Rustang launch, la--tee---da. Just sit there for a moment....... then Woosh, 1st turbo, howl, second turbo, snicker. On a bike I have integrated a little right hand wave, they usually look back to see if you're coming, see you waving............ think it's good bye, but it's "check out my underseat exhaust".

I used to own a 93 Supra TT which made about 500 HP, so I know how those things can go. A bike would take me from the start, but they be shocked as I flew past them in the triple digits. That thing just pulled and pulled.

I hate you all w/supras.

On my ninja 250, an audi a4 convert launched on me. I just kept going, minding my own business. Didn't really bother me.

I haven't ran across a car that has wanted to race me yet. Well, I take that back. There might have been some cars, where I split the lanes at the light, that didn't want me to go ahead of them. So they would seem to gun it at least 3/4 throttle. I bend my throttle 1/4 back and I pass them, and they give up hahaha.

Even in my RSX-S, I haven't gotten many instigations at lights.

The RSX-S doesn't have the ricer appeal like the old 'Tegs. I think it has to do with price, but you don't see too many kids trying to run anything on 4 wheels like many young Integra drivers.

My now sold WRX was constantly drawing attention from the street racing crowd. I always enjoyed pulling up to some guy or lady in a somewhat quick luxary car and watching their reaction when you walk on them in their car that probably set them back 3X what I paid for my WRX. :D

Have yet to lose to a cage. I've beaten every kind of Mustangs, BMW's, Mercedes, old muscle cars, etc... even a couple of Dodge Vipers believe it or not.

The best is when they ask how many HP my bike has, I'll tell them roughly 100 and they laugh. Little do they understand the term "power-to-weight ratio", until they get spanked afterwards.

Only time I ever "raced" a car was when I got stuck in the right lane at a stoplight where the right lane was going to end shortly after the light. Some doofus in a full size van pulled up on my left and tried to take me off the line at the light. I could have let him go, but decided that it might be safer to not get stuck in a lane that was ending. Without much effort at all, (maybe 1/4 throttle, shifting around 7000RPM), I was gone. Wasn't even close. Granted, full size vans are slow, but considering how quickly I got away from him without even trying, I can't imagine there are too many cars out there that can take a quick bike like an FZ6!

It doesnt, but I think I did make it somewhat 'ricey' but I'd like to say its still relatively clean. I have the type-r style wing and a cf hood, but oddly enough w/the color of my car, sometimes its hard to tell from a distance. I'd like to say its clean still, but I can understand it when people question the cf hood and wing.

I love the wrx. I drove my friends once and I just got addicted to boost. After driving it I really wanted to go turbo on my rsx-s, but granted, I would still lose off the line because of lack of traction. FWD owns me. So I just decided to get a bike =)

Well, I almost got the RSXS myself when I graduated college. They wouldn't move on prices then, so I got my runner up, the VW GTI 1.8T. That was a great car and I also loved the boost. But when I managed to steal a WRX from a local dealer, I had no reservations about trading in that GTI for an AWD beast like the WRX.

The problem with cars is the cost for mods to make it anywhere near as quick as a bike like this. Once I realized just how much it would cost to get my WRX in the 12's, I said screw it and sold it for a very inexpensive, slightly used supercharged Pontiac Grand Prix. For a daily driver, it's a nice car and my new FZ sure beats the WRX in the fun factor. :headbang :D

Nope! Sounds interesting though. Where did you see/hear about it? What sort of 1/4 mile time will it turn? Do you have a link to the video?

Yeah I got the rsx-s as part of a grad/christmas/bday present, well, a 2k down from my parents at least. I'm still paying it off as we speak, otherwise, I would have probably traded it in for the new legacy gt's. I fell in love once I saw pics of that car.

Yeah, if people want to go fast, they should look into a bike. But I think why people mod their cars to make it go fast is because of the 'dangers' of riding a bike. Granted, it is more risky, but anything that moves can be risky. Its just the attitude you have that's important.
