Yo, im looking into getting an rs125, but i have a couple of questions, so if anyone knows the answers, be cool and ansswer please :cheers

since it is a two-stroke, will i be doing top ends every other month?

would it do good as a commuter bike?

do i have to mix gas+oil, or can i just fill it up at the local station?

is the powerband going to break my face off?

is it a good begginer bike?

and lastly, will i get chix like mad, dawg?? :squid :squid

So do you already have an 06 EX250 and you are considering getting rid of it for the Aprilia?

I wouldn't reccomend it as a beginners bike, it has nothing to do with the powerband or anything like that, it's just that they do require a good amount of tinkering. You won't be doing top-ends every other month, but depending on how you ride, you might be doing it every other season.

I wouldn't reccomend it as a commuter bike either, it's too high strung, unless it's a short commute on city streets, but highway riding isn't all that fun on those bikes.

When I was in Italy I had an RS250 and a friend had an RS125.

Lastly you probably won't get that many chicks with that bike, it sounds like a lawnmower. Those bikes are designed to have the shit revved out of them at the track, they weren't meant to be street bikes.

The 50 could be a good starter bike if you have ridden dirt before. Otherwise I would stay away from it because they are very twitchy... and no they aren't slow, they may not have a 100+ top speed... but they definatly are not slow.

Rs125 are meant for the track. They will chew you up and spit you out at the slightest mistake. Not good begginner bike and very expensive specially to get one here.
not quite, theres not enough power. and the chassis is amazing. with the rs250, i could get away with just about anything other than too much lean angle.

with the 250, it had oil injection, so no need for premixing. im not sure with the 125 though, you'd have to check.

firefighter covered the rest well.

hagios, i know some people here in cali who have 250's on the street. it can be done...somehow.

^Well I rode an RS50 which had been modified slightly and it was not a very friendly ride. I then watched a friend nearly kill him self on it after giving it too much gas in a corner and ending in up a lowside which almost got him ran over.

i have no experience with 50's, so i dont know what to say. the big brother was the friendliest bike i've ever ridden though. maybe the 50 was just too strung out?
one of my 2stroke buddys i use to pit with had a RS50 with a 125 stuck in it. thats what he used for his sunday rides. said a cop pulled him over for doing like 85 or something and then told the cop that was impossible because the bike was only had 50cc's. the cop checked it out then let him off, lol :phatyo

Why go through the hassle to get one? I know that they are sweet bikes, but...for a daily commuter they're not the best, and...for the time and money that you spend looking for a "street-legal" one, you could get a host of other bikes.

But you guys are experienced riders for a new rider the RS bikes are not all that friendly from what I have experienced.
No they're not that friendly but they are terrific little bikes, can't see why lots of posts are talking about RS50's, or am I missing something.

First off an RS125 is a peaky little bike and will be much more difficult to ride than the 250 you currently have, I was going to suggest an RS250 but they're peaky as well, with a powerband that you could shave with. :)

2 strokes are still legal here, but you see most RS250's on a track, simply because most people recognise that they are not 'easy' road bikes, but they are amazingly quick little bikes and handle like they're on rails.

You pays your money and makes your choices. :) .. up to you mate. :)

For what its worth...........

The aprilia RS250 is basicaly engined with the old SUZUKI 250 twin, you can bump them into 400's I think with some small cash. Its a good bike to try to snag and get licensed for the street.

Its called grey market.

Pull the exhaust off and have all the lights working (rigged up if you have to) and mirrors. Go to a small town DMV and have them check it and they will issue a US title and because they dont see the exhaust they wont know its an oil burning gas spitting two stroke.

Ive done it and helped others do it.

Well i've only ridden on the 50s so thats why I was talking from experience. They are great bikes I agree fun to flick around such a little bike but the powerband is just so weird on them... they come around and bite you on the ass when you least expect it since after all its just a 50.

...never ridden the 50 (wouldn't want to either), but I have ridden an rs250 and it's a bit of a nutter bike tbh, you can chuck it around like a bicycle and if you keep it in it's power band it's a very quick bike..... needs a lot of concentration..

...but a good road bike...it isn't :)
