I got a set of these for my b-day. OMG freakin awesome. The knives I was using before were crap. These are light as hell, sharp as hell and cut so much better.

If you don't cook this will be meaningless, but if you do, buy a good set of knives. Holy shit!

i love good knives, but do not currently have a great set. i do however have one of these: (although not black)

it is made by kyocera, is ceramic and is ridiculously sharp, although somewhat fragile. i have already chipped mine, so i only use it while cutting (not chopping) vegetables. :(

I looked at ceramics but the durability concerned me. I'm no pro but I use my knives every day and wanted something that I wouldn't destroy.

I just cut come peppers and scallops for dinner and I was laughing while cutting because its so easy.

yeah, you have to be careful with them. so no rolling and twisting the blade while chopping veggies, nothing with bones and definitely do not crush a garlic clove with it

I like knives, and love cooking. I can never find a good sharpeners. I'd love to get something that last a good while before having to sharpen it. I'll have to wait for a christmas gift or something, I just can't warrant paying out the ass for a good knife.

I finally bought for first set of quality knives. Henckel Brothers. Night and day difference from my Wal-Mart collection. lol. My dad has a bunch of really nice, high-end quality stuff. I know one of his knives cost around 2k. They are like pieces of art.

Same here, I have a $60 set of Hampton Forge knives I got a Target and they're holding up just fine after a year of fairly heavy use. A friend bought me a set of Furi knives, and they're pretty sweet, but there's no way in hell I'd entertain spending several hundred dollars per knife for the ones you see in high-end cooking stores.

I had a cheap set of cuisinart knives that I've been using for 4 years or so. You know, all knives are gonna cut as long as you keep the sharp. But the handles weren't comfy for a lot of cutting and there was a lot of sharpening involved to keep them decent.

The globals come very sharp and are harder than a lot of the euro knives like henckels and wusthof. They hold an edge longer. They also have thinner blades and no bolster (the metal in between the handle) so they're very light.

I don't think multi-hundreds per knife is a good thing either. I got a 3 pack, chef's knife, utility and paring. I would guess based on internet searches that this was around $200. Assuming the knives last (and they have a lifetime warranty) thats a great deal.

i was reading on a gun forum and some dudes who are serious knife gurus use this: Products

they say it's probably one of the best sharpening systems you can buy.

i like good kitchen knives, i just don't have the money to afford them. i'm gonna probably start buying them one at a time to offset the cost a little.

i almost bought the global knives a few months ago, but i heard the handles were kinda small(makes sense for a Japanese knife) i ended up going with a set of Shun knives still Japanese (i like the jap knives better) but the handles are b*****. I love them to death if anyone is looking.

I have heard that with the ceramics you really are better off going with the Damascus blades(of coarse the more expensive ones) and that only like 1 or 2 brands were any good

I will never use a knife sharpener, it really is an art and its so cheap to take them to be done professionally every year or two

I'd throw that thing away before I bit down on a piece of ceramic that decided to make its way into my food.

i actually give it a quick 'inspection' after each use. the one chip is about 1/8 long by 1/16 into the blade, not big, but noticeable. even being fragile, i love using it, it just falls through whatever im cutting. you can even shave with it :D
