I just got a phone call from the guy that wants to sell me his bike. He told me that his sister who owns the bike just got the title for him and he said the previous owner never signed the title, I think he did say it was dated. The guy that owned it before his sister is in Iraq so he can't sign it. My mom said she thinks what he's trying to do is pass along the fee that the bureau adds after you don't title a vehicle for so long.

Has anyone ever had something similar to this happen to them? I'm trying to figure out whether or not I really want to buy this bike now.

I already told him that he needs to get the bike put in his own name before I go any further with the deal. The sad thing is that he said there is another guy from around here wanting to look at it too....of course he could be lying just trying to get it off his hands as quick as possible. I told him I would call the license bureau tomorrow to see what they think about it.

I'm really flamed all up about this now......it really pisses me off......I finally thought I found something good, but I guess if it's too good to be true it probably is......the bad thing is that I sold all of my photography equipment so I could purchase this. But I do have about $950 or more now so I could POSSIBLY save a few hundred but even then bikes that cheap are a rare find within driving distance.

Well, don't pay cash unless the title is signed.

But i wouldnt worry about the fee for being late. It's like a $15 penalty if it's not within two weeks in most states. So it's not something that gets b***** the longer you wait.

I have the title for my bike... lemmie look here:

issued in 7/04
transferred in 8/04
transferred again in 12/04
transferred to me in 2/06
and it has never been taken to the DMV to be transferred in all that time

so no, it's not that unusual.

i need to get on that, though...
(but the bike is in pieces right now, so it's not a big hurry. :D )

in missouri, it says that you have 30 days to license a vehicle, on the 31st day there is a $25 penalty, and every 30 days after that they put another $25 on to the total, but not to exceed $200.....my guess is that they think by not putting their name on there, and me putting mine I will have to pay the $200 fee.....which wont happen......i told him that his sister needs to get it put it her name and somehow they need to sign this other guys name or sign the previous owners name and lower the price of the bike $200 to make up for the fee ill get slammed with......

this is SO not cool

anyone got a fixer upper for $1000 close to missouri?

Well most states if you have good reason why the title couldnt get Transferred they will waive the added fees... Ours here in oregon is simular to yours there... I would explain with bill of sale that you just bought the bike and have the dated bill of sale... They will waive the fees for ya.. Or atleast they should... As for the Signature thats a different story... I can say they sometimes check signatures from Drivers licenses If they have any thought that it isnt a legit transaction... If that happens they send a letter to the registered owner and let them know of the issue... It is at his discretion if he wants to get the bike back or release the transaction... This happened to my step mom when her ex-husband forged her signature on their title... She let it go and called it good..

As for my bike when I bought it the title was never transferred and was dated for the prior year.. They asked and I said I didnt know why the idiot before never transferred it but explained that I just bought it.. Paid the normal fee and on my way I went...

I had a guy give me a bike one time that was in a hundred pieces and no title. I put it back together, rebuilt it, and got a bonded title from the bank. I sold it a year later no problem.
