Daytona Sportbike co-leader (at the start of the weekend) Martin Cardenas crashed just laps into the morning practice session on Friday. Result? Compound fracture of his right hand.

He goes out later in the day and qualifies for the race on Friday afternoon and rides well in the race on Saturday. Without pain meds!

Hope he can ride on Sunday.

uhm, did you see the Greg White interview? Greg said the compound fracture was through the skin, and Cardanes pushed the bone back in his hand! He has to keep the pinky pointed out, and when he downshifts for a corner, can only use the ring finger to throttle, and uses the fore and middle finger to brake.

It sucks for Zemke....he led too. He and Hacking are basicly the fastest privateers.

As long as it wasn't a Buell, at this point, I'm happy.

Umm, that's what a compound fracture is...bone through the skin.

I haven't seen the race yet.

Can you imagine the pain every time he twists the throttle or hits the brakes? WOW!

I know it's through the skin, but I emphasized that, to show how painful pushing your bone back in your hand would be.

I won't spoil it for you. I won't tell you where he finished, nor who won.

it's a shame that the superbike races aren't as close as the D.S. racing.

Buell did not take the win; however, with Cardenas at less than 100%, it was enough to out rightly take over the points lead. At the end of the season, that's all that's going to matter! My hat goes off to Cardenas for riding in the condition. It’s good and really needed for the sport to see a battle until the end.

It's good to see Martin rode again today. Too bad he lost another 15 points to Eslick. That's going to be a hard deficit to make up with only 2 races left (New Jersey in 3 weeks) and a broken hand.

Maybe Dr Ting can pull a miracle out of his ass!
