I need to copy a shortcut from the server to a user's desktop using a bat file.

Can anyone help?

Maybe map a network drive using NETUSE? COPY command after?

e.g. NET USE K: \\host_machine\folder\subfolder

then COPY /? for the exact syntax for coping the specified file.

That's what I need...the syntax. I am familiar with copying normal files, but I can't seem to copy a shortcut file.

Hmmm, maybe?

COPY K:\"Documents and Settings"\admin\"My Documents"\my_crap.lnk C:\windows\system32 /switch1 /switch2/ swtichN

Not sure if this helps or is nothing you already know.

if they already have access to the server, no need to map them.

I think I figured it out. I just used a wild card and it seemed to work.

Thanks

to make life easier, in your example, just use

"K:\Documents and Settings\admin\My Documents\my_crap.lnk "

Depends on what kinda mood I'm in. Sometimes I get lazy when I start typing out Documents... and just hit the TAB key and it puts the quotes around it automatically. Not sure how I stumbled on that, but I know you can't do it for each folder that has a space character in it.
