Well, after a month of obsessing and searching, I have finally pulled the tr***** and purchased a bike. I wanted either an FZ6 or FZ1, depending on availability and the sort of deal I could find. In the end, I started leaning more heavily towards the FZ6 because of the FI and the styling, and last week finally got a test ride on one at a local motorcycle shop. It was a beautiful bike with lots of nice mods (see this thread), but had some pretty nasty vibrations between 6k and 8k rpm. At the same time, I was keeping an eye on a local bike on eBay that looked beautiful and was pretty reasonably priced with no reserve. Normally, I don't like to buy motorcycles sight unseen, but if I wanted this one I had to act.

And act I did. I won the auction yesterday, picked up the bike today, and luckily for me the bike is a perfect specimen. Vibrations? Hardly. Yeah, I can feel a little tickle in the butt around 5500-6500 rpm, but NOTHING compared to the bike I test rode earlier. Completely stock save for a tall windscreen (don't worry, I have frame sliders, a FE kit, and a battery tender on the way), and very clean. I LOVE this bike. It's such a thrill to ride, and I'm 100% confident that I made the right choice in choosing to buy an FZ6. Thank you all for your help and advice in the past, and I look forward to hanging out around here in the future!

Lest anyone say that this thread is worthless without a pic:

God my bike is gorgeous! I mean, your bike is gorgeous. Well, actually OUR bikes are quite beautiful. You clearly are a man of sophisticated taste.
Congratulations on choosing the sexier and faster blue. :cheers

Truly an amazing ride. My most capable bike to date has been a 1982 Virago 920, so this FZ6 is a revelation. And I can't stop staring at the damn thing (when I'm not riding it, that is)! My girlfriend is starting to feel a bit insecure...

Gorgeous bike, and nice snipe too! Obviously a smart ebayer who waits till the last second to place their bid, not bidding and bidding, driving up the price ;)

(I've been selling and buying on ebay for over 8 years). You got your FZ for an very good price! And ooooeeey is it clean!

ghostom, the windscreen, according to the seller, is simply a yamaha taller screen that he bought off ebay. The dude from whom he bought it painted it black. It's completely opaque, which I think looks sort of weird, but oh well. As far as bugs go, I still basically get the same volume of guts on my faceshield, as the windscreen deflects wind only to about chin level if I'm sitting upright. If a big juicy bug hits the top of the screen just so, I'll get a splatter of bug goo right in the face. Sort of like a scene out of a slasher flick :)

Thanks, Klouseau, I'm an expert sniper ;) It's sort of dumb, though, if people would just enter the price they're willing to pay, it would seemingly go smoother. I was watching the bike all week, but didn't put my bid in until 2 minutes or so to go. I would have waited longer, but I was starting to panic. I was pretty certain that I would win, because I was willing to pay a price that was a few hundred dollars more than what I ended up paying.

Anyway, still thrilled with my purchase. Still looking for a set of handlebar risers, too. Perhaps a gel seat or Corbin, as well...
