So it rained an inch and a half a few days ago and there I was trying to get home from work at 3 in the morning. I have ridden in rain before, but nothing like this. In hindsight, I should have waited for it to pass. Anywho, I was almost home with no problems when I got into my neighborhood, rounded a corner and ran into about 2-2.5 feet of water all the way across the road. I was only going about 15 because I could tell that there was water in the road, just not that much! When I hit it, a solid sheet of water came over the fairing and around my knees and I could see nothing at all. The water was half way between my ankles and my knees while I was on the bike!

I immediately slwed down and started going about 5 and got through it. It was like this for about a solid block. The whole time I was thinking, God dont let me suck water into the engine. I got through unscathed and my bike got a nice bath :) It hasnt ben this clean all winter! Anyway, I was glad that I wasnt in my car. I drive a 97 Cavalier that would have been destroyed had I tried to cross in it. Next time, I think I'll just wait for the rain to pass and I will take the other way home! This bike really is tough.

Having high exit pipes under the seat, you were just fine going through the water :)

What a neat experience!

It is like having a trailie, I was riding through heavy rain last year and after passing traffic I got to the hold up, a flooded underpass, the police were trying to get some stalled cars out, he looked at my bike and just said, 'keep to the middle', the water was nearly up to my knees, my boots leaked though!

not my prefered thing to do but this has happened to me as well. Was leaving work, got to an underpass that didn't look that bad ..... till i go to the middle of it. No sence in tryin to turn around so just kept going. The worst thing that happened was some water got into on of my front turn signal connectors and one of the signal LEDs on the gauge cluster was light up just a bit. Eventually it dried out and all is fine again.

The airbox and pipes are much higher then a car so the bike can go thru deeper water if you have to. Just move slow enough to get thru & not fall over :eek:nfloor

You also need to factor in the intake as well. Nothing worse than sucking water in where it's not suppoda be.

You bet. I know a guy that sucked water into his honda civic engine. Since water doesnt compress it just shut down. It wouldnt crank even.

Pull the spark plugs and turn it over to get the water out, assuming it didn't bend/break anything.

You got that right. I went through water not even half that deep in my '96 and it took out the ignition module. No way I was going to pay over $800 to repair a $1200 car! :rolleyes
