Ok I'm a pretty patient person usually.......but I've been looking for a bike to ride for months....I can't find anything that has a clear title for the amount I have (about $1500) I look on eBay daily for bikes that are 250 miles and closer. The only thing I find on there in my price range are 1980's cruiser bikes or little kids 50 and 80cc bikes......

what gives? is it near impossible to find a bike with this price or what?

ebay is kind of a bad place to look. Whenever I see bikes nearing the ending time, they are almost always higher than what local prices go for, dunno why. Try looking local. I used to look at all the online paper ads of any city within a 2-3 hour drive. Be patient.

Try looking at a little higher price and figuring you can talk them down a bit.

It is spring !! every one is freakin and wanting to get on a bike. It don't make waiting any easyer but about mid summer to fall when they want to sell before storing the bike I'd bet anything youll see prices come way down. Good luck.

Or you could go for an older Ninja 250, it might not be the coolest bike in the world, but it's a great starter bike, and it will get you riding for your price range.

i believe ive tried cycletrader as well and all i got was cruiser bikes and the youth bikes.....

bsooner - $2500 is way off from $1500 :)

and honestly i wouldnt mind riding an older ex250....bike is a bike...and the smaller engine will give me better gas mileage so im down for that......and when i get to know the bike better i can move up later......as everyone has said before.....with gas prices the way they are now i dont really expect depreciation to be much

try your local craigslist listings... http://www.craigslist.org/
been there........

dont that.....

ive checked st louis, kansas city, and des moine with no luck

i had posted when i first joined about a 96 ninja zx6 for $600 and it pretty much seemed like a scam so i passed it up....

i do have one lead on one for $1500, a 92 katana 600cc.....ive emailed the guy a few times, he replied once or twice but i cant get him to send photos....he lives at least 2 hours away and so i cant just drive if its gonna be a POS.....his bike on NADA average retail is just over $1300 so i think i can talk him down a bit......i have his number and i guess ill have to call him tomorrow to see if he'll send me some photos

I second the craigslist. I've seen the best prices there, and they're local.

BUT, you'll not get a sportbike for $1500. Try for a parallel twin, mid 80s, air cooled. Everybody made them, and you can still get parts.

Honda CM400, Suzuki GS400/450, Kawi LTD305/454, etc.

Be prepared to put on tires, or chain/sprockets, or battery, or carb work, or something else.

Clean, old bikes do pop up, but you've got to grab them.

I just sold my 1994 Seca II for $1500. Good starter bikes are out there. But depending on your local you might have to wait for them to show up. Haveing cash on hand helps to.
