The AGV Corsa is the replacement for the top of the line GP-Tech. The brand new Corsa is striking to look at, and that is mainly due to the fact that it is based on the carbon fiber Pista GP. It brings many of the same race-ready features developed with help from Valentino Rossi to the table, but with some added versatility to make it more usable on the street.

You can immediately tell that the AGV Corsa is something a little different. From the huge eyeport at the front, to the sharp diffuser at the back, the entire profile of the helmet screams performance. That’s because the Pista GP that it is based on was meant for pure performance at the highest level. The two helmets share the same shell shape, which means that the Corsa gets the same ultra-efficient aerodynamics and massive eyeport as its much more expensive counterpart. The area that the shells differ is the materials. The Pista GP is made of carbon fiber, whereas the Corsa is made of a Carbon/Kevlar/Fiberglass. Built into the shell are several very large intake vents at the front and two exhaust vents at the back. The shape, size and channeling of the ventilation is the same as that of the Pista GP, however the Corsa’s are adjustable.

Inside the Corsa, you’ll find a very plush, comfortable lining that allows you to customize the fit right out of the box. Peel-away foam pads are found in both the cheek pads and liner. These types of pads aren’t new to the market, but the liner also has another trick up its sleeve. The two strips of padding that run over the top of the head connect to the back of the liner with velcro, meaning that you can lengthen, shorten and move them side to side. This allows the Corsa to provide a comfortable and safe fit to a variety of head shapes. The fabrics that line the interior are all extremely breathable and have received a special sanitizing treatment that keeps them fresher for longer. When they do need cleaning, you can pull them out and wash them without having to worry about ruining them.

• Residual impact force transmitted to the head, 31% below the limit set by the standard. The result is achieved thanks to the numerous FEM simulations and in-house tests carried out.

• HIC index 48% below the limit set by the standard. The HIC (Head Injury Criterion) index measures the level of brain trauma risk due to the accelerations of impact. In this case too, the result is achieved thanks to the numerous FEM simulations and in-house tests carried out.

• 71% more compact visor movement. This allows use of the space saved to increase the thickness of the absorption material, benefitting safety.

• 9% b***** visor window 9%. This gives the rider better visibility of the track in front and laterally when bent over the bike riding straight ahead, benefitting active safety.

• 3% smaller frontal section and 6% small lateral section: the helmet is more compact and lighter, without reducing passive safety and comfort.

• Aerodynamic resistance (Cd) reduced by 17%. The lower the Cd value, the lower the amount of stress transmitted to the rider’s neck, with an increase in comfort and reduction of fatigue. Attentive design, computational fluid dynamic tests and wind tunnel testing have obtained an average 17% reduction of the Cd while racing.

• 193% increase in vent surface. The position and size of the vents and computational fluid dynamic wind tunnel testing have generated a ventilation system capable of effectively removing heat and humidity.

This helmet replicates the one worn by The Doctor at the Valencia winter test sessions late in 2012 and during the Circuit of the Americas (COTA) track in Austin, Texas, when he rode once more the M1. The M1 was adorned with customized grey/black livery, combined with the unmistakable fluorescent yellow Rossi touches. Needless to say, the same color scheme graced his Dainese D-air® Racing suit and AGV helmet. Apart from his usual Sun and Moon graphics, Valentino also chose to have an ideogram for the Japanese word “Kando” on the back of his Pista GP helmet. This word is used to indicate an intense emotion, such as that felt when seeing something exclusive, deeply satisfying and intensely exciting. The word was first used by Masao Furusawa when Valentino arrived at Yamaha in 2004 and the version seen on the helmet was designed by Masaoʼs wife. This highly unusual graphic will be available as a limited edition on the Corsa model only.
