I'm actually an attorney, just passed the bar exam, but I'm from PA so I'm not sure how it all works down here. It's a mandatory hearing which is tomorrow. No driving school allowed for 30+ over. He actually clocked me at 93 on the onramp to 19 North in Clearwater. Statutory speed limit for hwys in the state is 70, so I'm gonna see where I can take that even though I know know it's actually 55 on that particular road. Anyone have any similar experiences, any success stories?

Bring your lots of cash and plead guilty - or bring lots of cash and hire a local attorney. Either way you'll be able to carry more corner speed next time because your wallet won't be weighing you down so much.

Plead Insanity!!

j/k.... I would definatley stress that this was on an on/off ramp, and not residential. Can you say that you made a last second decision to take the exit, paniced, and hit the throttle by accident. Say your a new rider.... youre going to get a lecture anyway you look at it... sounds like that is going to be expensive. Let us know how it goes!

Wear slip on shoes to court, that way you won't have to deal with them falling off after they take your shoelaces away. You also may want to wear pants that fit without a belt, and be sure to hide plenty of smokes where the sun don't shine.

Unless posted otherwise. Was it posted 55?

I would have hired a lawyer but since its last minute, that wont help you much. With the news laws (Oct 2008), 50+ puts you deep in shit. Could be up to a $1000 fine....

Good luck...

shouldnt the 50 over have put it just in the automatic $1000 ticket range?

I think so but wasnt sure if it was automatic... or just up to. Think that is the judges discretion. My suggestion would be to try and plead it down to something less...lower the mph over to 29 and pay the fine. Not sure how forgiving Pinellas County is.

Keep us posted on the turn out.

It's crazy, this is the 2nd story in a week where we've heard of some1 stopping for the cops and getting raped bc of it. You guys need to learn to jam that throttle and leave'em in ur smoke trail.

Yeah Right take Big K advice and Jam the Throttle.. If the cop Don't Catch you the radar or and accident will. Why run, If you are wrong then you are wrong. Either way you lose the argument or your life....Is it really worth it um?

I had a buttload of tickets and hired a really good lawyer in seminole county. He works in seminole and orange though, or else I'd recommend him. What we did was plead no contest, then he worked out a deal to lower the fines. I was hesitant at first, because "no contest" means "guilty" to most people, but I guess the legalities of it give you leverage to negotiate to make it easier on the court system.

I think that would be your best bet. Plead no contest, and agree to a charge of 64 in a 35.

Get a lawyer though. As you know, you're paying for their connections as much as their knowledge. They know the DA, judges, and police officers in their area; and that helps tremendously.

Good luck.

I don't run cause if I get caught, then I'll get disbarred and will have wasted 7 years of school and $100,000 in education costs, not to mention my career. Besides I didn't know he was there, I was only going 60 when he caught up to me. And it was posted 55 after I got on. Anything over 30 is a mandatory court appearance, there aren't mandatory fines for over 50 that I'm aware of. I wish I would just run sometimes, I'm an advanced trackday rider and ccs racer so I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have a problem getting away...
O well wish me luck, I'm off to court now...
