My daughter has a 96 ninja 250 that we don't know much history about. We bought it in January and have had to put some work into it like adding the airbox because the previous owner removed it.

When it is fully warmed up I have the idle set at 2000 RPM's currently. It takes 15 minutes minimum of riding it around to get it fully warmed up and idle consistently. Before it is fully warmed up, idle can jump up to 3000 RPMs and quickly dropped to 800 RPMs and anywhere in between there. It bounces all over the place. So is this normal? Should I be keeping the choke on slightly?

I have already checked for vacuum leaks and air leaks around the boots. Suggestions?

I also wanted to add that someone said the ECU could be bad if the idle is eratic at times. I don't know how I would test this.
