Wow, a sliding scale fine for speeding. Better watch your speed while in Europe.

Finn fined $60,000 for speeding | Fox News

Everyone knows crime doesn’t pay, but sometimes you have to pay big time for a small crime.

A driver in Finland was recently fined $60,000 for doing 64 mph in a 50 mph zone, The Sunday Times Reports.

The hefty levy for the 14 mph infraction was courtesy of Finland’s income-based system, which uses a sliding scale based on the previous year’s income of the ticketed individual. The logic being that typical fines aren’t as much of a deterrent to the wealthy as they are to average folks.

The driver in this case, Reima Kuisla, owns race horses that compete around the world and had a reported income in 2014 of around $7 million. Afterward, he posted on Facebook that he’s now considering leaving the country.

If he does, he may want to avoid Germany, Austria, France and Switzerland, which all employ a similar system. The last of those dished out a $1 million ticket to a Swedish driver passing through the country at an equally impressive 180 mph.

Damn that sounds stupid. Europeans are always finding new ways to take people's money. And the people there are such pussies they'll never do anything about it.

that's pretty awesome...only paying .85% of your income. That's less than the average US fine for the average person.

yeah that is true but at least they do not have aliens running their country like we do. (Plutonians, Martians and Uranusians)

It is crazy as hell, taxes here are bad but they are REALLY insane in most of Europe. I can see why that guy would want to just say fk you and move. It seems like it is the popular mindset now to think all people with money should be punished for having money. $60k for going 64 in a 50 is insane no matter how much money you have.

The U.S. is no different. We have outrageous fines for countless offenses around the country. We pay them just like the Euro folks. And as long as young people don't vote (which will always be the case) these fees will always exist.

Yabut in Europe you get something for it. They have awesome public transportation, free medical care and free senior care.
lol, have you been to europe? I have, it is not as great as you are trying to paint it. Most people pay more in taxes than what they keep, if you are lucky you have a little econobox 50hp car and a small apartment. Great you can ride the train, wheeeeeee. I would rather keep more of my $ than to pay for others healthcare.

Hate to burst your bubble, but young people voting isn't going to change anything

The ones who actually had enough cajones to do something all left. About 250 years ago. They came here and told their European rulers what to do with the taxes, then picked flintlocks and made it stick.

Unfortunately we've let the bloodline thin.....

Did you have a chat with them 250 years ago before they left to confirm that none remain within the borders? So you yourself do not have any cajones either according to your statement?

haha

more like they came here, fought against taxes for wealthy land owners on the promise of land and gold, who then formed a government which promptly stabbed them in the back and taxed the shit out of everyone but themselves.

You can take aristocrats out of the kingdom.... or something
