I do like the fact that Honda is still selling a bare bones, all manly bits motorcycle.

$17k for a CBR1000 seems like a lot of money and there are better options for that much.

Uhm, yes and no. Literbikes are around 14-15K nowadays, the CBR retails at $14000, this comes with $3400 worth of Öhlins goodies and Brembo M4 calipers worth about $800. You'd be paying $18200 for a CBR and the upgrades, it's a nice $1200 discount if you must have a CBR with good suspension and better brakes...

And you can't really get anything else with that kind of suspension and brakes for $17,000. The closest being the Aprilia RSV4 Factory, at $20K. Even if it is the oldest literbike out there, it is no slouch. The upgraded suspension will allow you to use more of it's "limited power" than other, more powerful, bikes riding on cheap suspenders.
