ok so heres the thing, my friend just bought a 2006 r1...it was at 9k miles when she bought it (1 week ago)...today we stopped for gas, she started it and the odometer read 18000 miles..and also the speedometer is off by alot, we were going 45 and the gauge read 160ish...any ideas?

faulty sensor i would think , but the miles suddenly jumping by double is not one I have ever heard of . Even if it is the sensor which isv easy enough to replace a dealer will be needed to reset the mileage .

the gauge is damaged thats all i can say.

it's set on KPH not MPH? still off a lot. 120kph is about 70 mph.

the R1 and the R6 have a built in diagnostic system so you can test all the sensors with the guages.

it has the capabilities to test the speed sensor.
download the service manual and look at the fuel injection chapter. it will show you how to use this feature.
