Still looking for a good used bike. Been very disappointed so far. Looked at a 2001 Honda CBR F4i, 6200 miles, with an oil leak, loose wire on headlight switch for the brights, duct tape on the right side fairing to match left side fairing, my guess is bike had been down and fairing replaced. Price was $4200. I looked at a 2002 ZX-6R $4000. It had 24,000 miles, front and rear wheels were bent where the tire bead meets the wheel. Tires didn't appear to leak. The black plastic behind headlights was broken loose at three points, but held in place with plastic straps. Next bike I look at is a 2000 ZX-6R with 8700 miles $4500. What is the book value ? Photos of bike look awesome. It looks very clean. Am I being to damn picky as far as the other two bikes ?

FWIW, the zx-6r won motorcycle.com's 600 supersport shootout in 2000. $4500 might be a little high for a 2000 6R, but that may vary with location. Don't get discouraged...the right bike will come along if you are patient!

You are not being too picky with those bikes. Keep looking and the right deal will eventually present itself.

4500 for a bike that cost about 8k 7 years ago??

WTF.. Waaaay too high..

I'd get him for 3500.... 4k the most, because of the low mileage..

yeah 4k is really high. i got my 01 with 12k for 3800 about 2 years ago. but i live in hawaii so everything is overpriced.

and being picky is great. my friends are a bunch of dumbasses. one almost bought a zx6e for $3k and it had 20k miles and no second gear until i talked him out of it. then a year later his dumbass talks another dumbass into buying a salvaged 02 gixxer with 25k miles and a whole bunch of crap wrong with it for $4k. damn squids.

just scour the classifieds/craigslist and a great deal will appear. you just gotta wait.

I've got to ask. I've seen the word "squids" on here from time to time and I have my own ideas on what it is , but could you guys give me your definitions .

There are many, but its usually a guy who buys the bike for the image and typically wears the least amount of gear possible..

There are others, use the search feature (it works well)

my definition: anyone who rides over their head & puts themselves & others in danger simply to impress others.... Riding Motorcycles is 99% mental, if you've got the squid mentality it doesn't matter what you're riding or wearing.

how the word "squid" came about is anyone's guess but there's a few theories... two of them being, 1 - It's what they look like when they go 'splat'. 2 - it's a combination of "squirrelly" and "kid".

my .02 is to forget the year and go with the technology:

pre-98 zx6r - fughettaboutit
98-99 - $2500 to $3000 - good bike (i'm biased) comfy and reliable
2000-2002 $3000 to $4000 - same as 98-99 with different fairing
2003-2004 $4000 to $5500 - fuel injected, big update from 02
2005 - 2006 $5000 to $6000 - undertail exhaust, updated bodywork from 04
2007 :)

for a cheap comfy sport-cruiser, i suggest a 98 or 99 with low miles, you can get them super cheap.

I just bought my 2003 zx6r for $4500 from a dealer, they are definately out there.

Actually, the 2000-20002 was alot different from the 98-99. :)

Also look into the 2005-2007 ZZR-600, as it's the same bike as the 2000-2002 ZX-6R, and you'll save a bundle on insurance.

ergonomics, suspension & aesthetic differences... that's about it. Other than a bunch of minor things, they're pretty much the same bike.

besides the fairings, how so? It's got practically the same suspension, the same carbs, the same basic engine, makes the same power, Hotbodies even uses the same race bodywork for 98-2002. what's different?

they kinda blow it outta proportion as they're still very similar, but after I thought about it some more, SundayDriver is KINDA right... they are pretty different...

BUT the average rider won't be able to tell the difference... so for all intents and purposes, even though the article says it's "all new!".... they're pretty close to being the same asside from a number of small differences.

Basically they're the same bike but the 00-02 is more refined in the sporty details.
