I went to this place to see if they could do my first service, and he said yes, but he also said that I could change it myself and it wouldn't void the warranty as long as I could show that I used good oil and a good filter. I could buy the stuff from the dealer and do it myself if thats the case.

oops lol, my bike is due for the its first 600 mile service and all that needs to be done is an oil change. My question is can a person do there first oil change on there bike and it not void the warranty?

Yes, but there is the matter of making sure that all the critical bolts are torqued down properly and all the cables are adjusted. These should also be part of the 600 mile service. Not hard to do, but you do need to identify all the bolts and know the torque specs.

Mjr650s, Your dealer will have the torque specs. You could probably just ask them for the sheet. Also if your bought a repair/ maintainence manual it should have them in it
