So I was on my way home from my friend's house. My normal cruise is 80mph. So I'm doing 80mph and I look in my left view mirror and think, "Sportbike!". As it gets closer, I'm thinking, "Older sportbike!" by the headlight config. I slow down to 65mph and he gets right next to me and gives me the "what's up?" motion with his head. I do the same, with my windows down and my music blaring. At first I thought it was some kind of a cruiser bike (later to find out it was a 1993 GSX 1100). We kind of stayed by each other and with my in 6th gear, I hit and he stayed right next to me up to 110mph then I shut down.

Afterwards he gave me another "what's up?" We went again up to 120mph with pretty much the same result. Then I dropped it down to 3rd, and I saw him downshift as well. Then I took off. I would say I got the jump, but I held him through 3rd (106mph), almost to the end of 4th (142mph) and he was many cars back. He caught back up and gave me the thumbs up and then lifted his visor, and I muted my music and we exchanged "good run"s and I asked him was that a 500 or 600. Took a while for him to actually understand me at 50mph. But when he said 1100, I thought he said 700. But then we pulled over about a mile later. Shook his hand, exchanged numbers and all that. He actually said a VR-4 was the car he had been looking for for a long time, and my run pretty much sold him on that fact. :D

After that, we did a real run (note this is all on the highway, forgot to mention) when we merged to another interstate. After the onramp merger, there is about a four mile straight where cops never sit. I went from 2nd at 40mph, held even the whole time, topped 2nd at 71mph, up to 3rd still holding even, 3rd tops at 105mph, as soon I shift to 4th I start pulling slightly, then suddenly I pull like crazy like he hit the brakes. Although we made two runs the same way with the same outcome.

Man have 1000s come a LONG way to today. My car isn't fast and I was running stock boost because I'm too lazy to replace the Manual Boost Controller. But still held off an old 1100. Not too shabby I guess. I'll have to let him know how a newer 1000 runs when I get my R1 this week. ;)

That should still be a low to mid 11 second bike. Unless you have a whole bunch of cash into that ride of yours, there must have been something F'd with that 1100.

Not really, my car is barely 12 second capable.

If your talking about the gsxR1100, then those are like high 10 second bikes. Real popular for turning into a drag bike. Turbo and nitrous esp.

+1

I ran against a 3KGT on my old ZX600R (with 32K miles on it) down the turnpike with about the same results.

GSX sounds like an old katana, not a GSX-R, though I don't know if they made any in that year. If so it's tuned more for midrange and low end torque than high rpm power. If it's a gsxr11oo, then it needs a good tuner.

There must have been something wrong with it. Its more like mid-low 10s probably. My 88' FZR 1000 does 10.7 stock, and its down like 20 hp on that gixxer. It should be able to give a ferrari or lamborgini a run for it's money.

It shouldnt matter if it was a katana or a gsxr, either one is a 10 second bike. The guy just couldnt ride it :D

It was this bike, same color as well.

1993 Suzuki GSX 1100G

Maybe it was aerodynamics. I believe a car comparable to the trap speed of a bike would pull harder (from a roll) than the bike. But I've never seen or done any real tests with a stock bike/car.

Also, going by these stats on Motorbikes.Be, the bike is heavily underrated by today's standards.

1993 Suzuki GSX 1100G Stats

100hp @ 8500RPM
98lbs/tq @ 7000RPM
551lbs dry

Granted my car is no lightweight...

360hp @ 7000RPM
320lbs/tq @ 7000RPM
3800lbs

You do the math, because I suck at it.

Unless you have modified your car or his bike is not running properly the bike will beat you from a stop or roll. The 3000 twin turbo was somewhat quick but is very heavy and certainly not even close to a 12 second car (unless heavily modded of course).

A GSXR 1100 should not be far behind your GSXR 1000 that got taken until you get to high speeds. As someone mentioned above, the 1100s are still used at the strip b/c they hold up well.

Umm, I'm well aware of what my car is capable of. 13.6 stock and 12.9 currently. And it doesn't take heavy mods to get there.

Umm....I wonder why you out ran it.

Measured top speed: 136 mph
Dude, it may have been an 1100, but it's a standard and wasn't built for speed ie; muscle bike. IF it had been either the GSX1100F(katana) or a GSX1100R(gixxer).....he'd of left you for dead.

I say something was f'd with the bike. I had that exact bike - same color, model year, everything and it was a monster. It's shaft drive so it loses some power but it's still good for a 3 second 0-60 and pulls quite well. I was honestly more scared of the the G than I am of the Busa. That was the king standard of its day. Up top I'm sure the car would pull but it should have no problem keeping ahead of you for a while.
