Buying an 05 this week, what to look for.

I've decided to go with a zzr to replace my klr and the bike I am most likely going to purchase is a Blue 05 with about 3500 miles. No damage, 2nd owner bike. Anything specific I should look for when checking it out? When is the first 'major' maintenance mileage wise? Any other tips or hints would be great. Thank you! Rick, newbie from Tucson AZ

Anyone install a 12-volt outlet on their bike?

Check for the obvious damage to plastic parts etc. The owner may say its never been dumped but you need to check anyway. 3500 miles is under the "Expected Accumulated Average Mileage" for a 2005 model which according to Kelley Blue Book is 4500 miles. 7000 miles is the first real major maintenance interval, it's valve adjustment time. Other than that IMO it's a really reliable bike. I have a 2006 and haven't had any major maintenance problems with the bike.

As for the 12-volt cigarette style plug. Yes it can be done. I have a 12-volt power cord hard wired directly to my battery with an inline fuse. I have charged my cellphone, ran a small air pump, used an AC converter to charge a laptop computer battery and even run the air pump in my air mattress when camping. I have my radar detector and Magellan GPS hardwired to the bike.

Here's a link to Kelley Blue Book. I wouldn't pay any more than $5345.00. Welcome to SBN and good luck with your purchase. If you have any other questions about the ZZR600 please feel free to ask. Jay
