Ninja 250 into a track bike. anyone seen it or done it?

We are having a hard time finding a good track bike for my wifey. She currently has a 2001 GSXR600 ( which is for sale) its a full track/race bike. we had to lower the rear 3" for her to even be close to tip toe the ground. She can tip tow both sides of my 2006 GSXR600. I feel the 600 is a little to much for her. she hasn't been riding for a very long time. Has anyone seen anyone or has anyone turned a Ninja 250 into a track bike? we were thinking of getting her a new 250R thats full fairing but we can't get our hands on one. so i was thinking of doing it to a older one. She wants to ride a bike on the street which i don't like.

so if anyone has any info or pic that would be great

thanks
brent

Nice, I did come looking around and found a few things on them
I found like 5 companies that make race plastics and like 10 exh ones, lol

now just getting one is the fun part. they are all sold out in AZ and most of them are pre sold

If it's going to the track, I'd really recommend you get a used bike.

+1

Used race / track bikes are definately the way to get a set-up bike (and possibly spares) for a great price.

If your looking for a smaller 'track only' bike for her you might want to consider a 125 2-stroke (or even a 250 2-stroke, but they can be pretty quick). Those things will teach you corner speed and especially for the smaller / lighter riders all I hear is how much they love them. The bikes are really light weight and smaller in size (the 125's are stupid light weight), I remember a guy who use to race a 125 here in the Midwest and he alone lifted the bike (fuel drained) and puts it in the trunk of his car - that's how he went racing!

Two-strokes are a different animal than 4 strokes, but if you can find one their pretty damn cheap to race. A concern I would have with the 125 is race tire availability, but if tires are available I wouldn't hesitate with getting one for the wife, I bet she would learn a ton and have a blast on the track with it!

Keep in mind, a Ninjito will increase the number of tracks you'll have "issues" on. I used to race an EX500which had twice the power and I brought it w/ me to VIR a couple of times for track days. Although it was a good time, the closing speeds can be pretty significant. Something like an SV650 is much more appropriate for a much wider variety of tracks than an EX250.

We were going to wait for them used market to kick back up with them.
She wants a track bike but also wants a street bike. the 250 would good for her. but now she found a 696 monster she wants that has a 30" seat height. i hate that she works which these bikes all day and goes and plays with them

we will see. I told her she could just ride my 06 GSXR600 on the track but she doesn't want to. oh well

Just remeber if you buy a bike from out of state the cost of transport SHOULD be a factor in determining if it's a good deal or not.

I haven't raced a ninja 250 but I did a trackday back in January at firebird east with my 2001 250 after I put stiffer sonic springs up front and swapped the back for an older ZX600 shock. The bike handled a lot better after that. I am definitely still a newb to track riding so I could definitely tell that my riding skills and not the bike were the limiting factor in how fast I was going around the track. Check out the forums on Ninja250 Riders Club :: Index for more info, I think there are a few people that race in the AFM 250 class on there. They will probably have a good idea on all the options for race plastics for the new generation of ninjas.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Chris
