with my r6 i just hit 4.5-5k rpm, (in 1st) let of the gas and hit it and roll 'er up. then work the throttle to get distance. i'm still working on clutchin' them up.

It always looks so easy when people do wheelies, but in reality it takes quite a bit of experience.

i have an 03 636 and i let it sit at about 5-6K then clutch it and dump at about 12-14 depending on my speed, im still new and cant ride them out, but that seems to bring it somewhere near the balance point. oh and im 200 lbs, so i need a little more umph, a 150 guy probably wouldnt need to take it that high, and whoever said u need to load anything under 1000 in 2nd and 3rd gear to wheelie it doesnt know what they are talking about, i weigh (like i said) 200 lbs and can clutch it in 2nd, i BARELY load it in 3rd, and any 750 and higher doesnt need to be loaded in 2nd or 3rd (assuming its a racerep type bike, not like a touring whatever) hehe

anyway thanks for the post, detailed and helped out a lot, thanks for taking the time..


one question, when pulling up the wheelie do you guys just listen to the motor and watch ahead, or do u look at the guage, and remember rpms and such

A little help please...I've been trying to clutch them up but it doesn't seen to work. Everytime I try it with the clutch the only thing it does is jerk me forward faster. I have an 06 Gixxer 750 that came with a slipper clutch...Can you clutch them up with a slipper clutch? If so what am I doing wrong?

Hoping its broken in all the way, give it more revs. But also remember to SNAP the clutch out. You wont get a good wheelie by letting it it out slow or reletively fast. Let the clutch engage 1/2 or more using just your index finger, then completely let it go.

I would use my whole hand at first and let it out real quick and all that does is mess you up.


and slipper clutches have nothing to do with stunting. Only downshifting.

Kick the tires and light the fires.

The bike has over 3000 km on it so it should be broken in...O.K. so in first gear I should be going how fast? And how high should I bring the revs up to before bringing in the clutch? Once the clutch is in I should bounce the revs up to how much before releasing? Then release the clutch 1/2 way and dump the rest or just dump it all the way? THANKS in advance for any tips...

in first gear just accelerate to like 25mph.. around 5 grand or so and pull the cluth in just a little and let it out quick while twisting the throttle a bit.... the engine will sound like it revs up a couple grand but i dont really know how much to do it... i try to look at the road instead of the guages when im out playing... if my sixxer will do it i know your 750 will... lol.. i can ride balance point sit downs for a few blocks no prob so i have no doubt that its just technique... but start out slow

I ride a zx6r. To pop a wheelie you don't need to clutch it the bike's got lots of power. I usually just listen to the engine. About 30mph close the throttle and open it up real quick, a little play in the throttle gives you a better feel. bike comes up on engine power and you don't need to burn up the clutch. I'd stay around 5000 rpm. keeping it up is nothing more than practice, once you can bring it up every time practice opening and closing throttle as quickly as you can ,636 is probably the easiest one to wheelie and you can hold it up forever.

Thanks guys (Gixxer-6 & Kninja636)....I know the gixxer 600 pops up easily enough at around 5k or 6k because of it's roller coaster like torque line but the 750 has a much smoother torque line....so the 600 will enter it's power band at around 5000 rpm and going about 30 mph but the 750 has to go up to about 9000 rpm and going 55 mph to hit it's power band!!!



It's kinda fast going to start learning...no? I know I could go about 30 mph and rev the shit out of it before dumping the clutch but the bike is still powerful so I don't want to flip it....Any suggestions on how hi I should rev it before dumping the clutch?
And to Kninja636...you have an amazing bike!!! My 2 choises were between the 06 ZX-6R and the 06 Gixxer 750. For learning to stunt the choise was easy...it would of been the ZX-6R but as a future track tool and everyday commute it had to be the Gixxer.

Cluting is always helpful, but its harder to learn. I was use to clutching smaller bikes and did go through a couple of sets of clutch plates. However when you have a smaller bike like ninja 250 you are going to have to clutch it. Just don't go crazy it still comes up pretty fast. I have been able to powerup a 250 but its not easy.
Great tip on the oil, I have a friend with a gixer 750 who burned up his engine doing wheelies a brand new bike. gixers are the worst. My ninja also has a sliding oil pan that doesn't fight gravity too well but nothing like the gixer. Good news is that you will have to ride some pretty long wheelies before doing any damage.

Good write up. Was out trying it today was poping them up about a foot but I think im probably just getting scared and letting off the throttle and or not raising the rpms high enough. Better than what I was doing. Getting kinda consistent. With the little pop ups.

I've been popping weelies for a few weeks now, but I can't seem to ride them for too long. I guess I'm just scared I'm gonna loop it. Anyway. I've been having problems getting the front to come up in second, and definitely third. I am currently riding an 06 GSXR 750. I know it has plenty of balls, but what do I need to do to get that sucka up in second and third?
