Hah, I'm that douche sometimes. If its heavy traffic I'll usually cruise around 7 or 8k at the beginning of my powerband, in case I need to skedaddle in a hurry.

My FZ6 is a 600, though it isn't a Supersport. Its extremely quiet (stock). You can barely hear it as a bystander, and if you're in a car it doesn't exist.

Well, all I can think of in the sporty avenue of 250's are the Ninja and the CBR. Have you considered an enduro? I have a Yamaha TW200 that would do quite well as a suburban navigator.
