iamrodriguez I have a 1993 750 Katana and a 2008 GSX650F and really like the 650 it has a better power range and accelerates so much smoother. Both bike are great but they come from differant eras of motorcycles. I am getting about 45 to 48 mpg on the 650 wasn't so good on the katana.

erickvonzipper Exactly. I am coming at this bike from that angle, too.

I have had a Yamaha FJ1200 for 12 years. I love the bike - it's a smooth, decent handling powerhouse, and all day comfortable - but I am tired of almost dropping it every time I'm doing a tight maneuver, especially with a passenger. I do a lot of highway riding, as well as city streets, and some backroads, and the bike is always just on this side of being a handful.

For me, the gsxf is a step in the right direction. The bike is as light as my first bike - a Kawi KZ440LTD - a cruiser I never had trouble manuevering, even though it was my first 'own'-bike. The gsxf looks and sits very close to my FJ, only its a little smaller and almost a hundred pounds lighter. I don't need a powerhouse. I need a nice standard-like moderately-sized bike that does normal riding chores well. The gsxf's good looks and wind protection are only pluses.

I am also very aesthetically driven. The gsxf is the first bike I have seen in many years that just got me right there when I first saw it. The FJ did that to me when I first saw one in about 1986. I saw the FZ6, the Bandit 600, the YZF600R before it was discontinued here, the 650 v-strom, the Kawi 650R, the SV650 variants, and whatever other midsized bikes that weren't important enough for me to remember right now. None of them, except the YZF, even interested me enough to make a special trip to the dealer to sit on one.

If my Drifter sells tomorrow, I will have a black/silver gsx650f this week.

Applewins Compared to a GSX-R, yes. Compared to my previous bike, Honda 1100 Sabre, it's a light weight. So, it's all relative.

LordPrice I finally got the chance to take it out(gxs650f), and it did very well. I drove about 100 miles through back country that was nothing but new pavement, hills and curves, and some more hills and curves. Im now more pleased now that i am bonding with my bike. So far the bikes limitations is my own ability, so it hasnt dissapointed me yet. Im hitting the road sunday for another long run before i have to take it in to the dealer for service i will let you know how it goes...

Gsx 650 F

Hi hit 1500 miles now as Lord says brilliant cant find any faults. However abit of bad news, my mate got on the back the other week and the rear footrest went from underneath him. There was a bubble in the cast so i would take care with them, may have just been mine but they could all be faulty? I have had the repairs done now, needed a new can as was dented Was also wondering where you got the spacers for the mirrors from? Oh yeah i got the black and silver model.

Applewins Lord Price,
I now have 1200 miles on mine and the bike never ceases to amaze me. I would ditto everything you said about the bike. I just added mirror extensions, much needed. Did you get black or the GSX blue?

Still wondering if I made the right choice....

LordPrice Wats up guys.. (im going to go ahead and say sorry for spelling and grammer so i dont wanna hear it)
I just bought an 08 GSX650F and so far i love it. ive had it for about a week and i really have not found much negative to say about it. Its a heavy bike but im still new to street bikes so it makes me feel better to have a little more solid weight under me. Im still breaking it in so i have not been over 90mph on it but it will get there fairly quickly.
I had wanted an SV600 the dealer did not have any, when i asked about this bike it didnt take long for me to fall in love with it, especially when you sit on the bike. The first thing i said was damm this bike feels good under me.
The bike is strong enough to keep me happy but also keep me from killing myself. Acceleration is very pleasing and it surprised me on how smooth you can access its speed. Customizing ricers and other cars is very popular around here and unfortunatly most are young idiot drivers. The next day after i got it someone was really messing with me and the bikes quick speed alowed me to easily pull away from him without having to go back down through the gears and keep him from bothering(or endangering me).
I had planned to only use the bike casually but i really can not stay off it.
I want to write a full review for those of you interested in this bike but i havent really broke it in enough to give an honest opinion. From what i have found from PRO reviews is mostly all positive other than the weight of the bike. I will write an UNbias review in about a week but id be happy to answer any questions if someone is interested about something on it.
Anyways i was real happy to find a good forum site...

You be amazed at how smooth the engine is compared to the 500. Also, no more cold starting drama since it has fuel injection.
Just getting into the 60's here in Maryland. I'll start working off the break in miles.
Your don't have to take the pipe off as the directions tell you. I simply put the bolt through the opposite way from what the directions say. The trickiest part is popping the spring on. I connected the spring to center stand first and then used a craftsman screwdriver to slip the hanger over the hook.
Good luck.

Just changed the oil.

Hello from Michigan.
Changed the oil at 350 miles. Nothing special or new to me except taking off a side panel. Never had a bike with one. Put on another 300 miles this weekend. Took it up to triple digits today...very nice. Just wish it would warm up a little.

dankatz Congratulations on your purchase...$120 seems like an excellent price for the centerstand - is it the OEM? I am glad you are giving comparisons to the Ninja 500. I had a Ninja 500 which I traded in for an FZ6 two weeks ago, so I know that bike well. It was very "flickable". Most of the 4cyl bikes will be smoother, but the GSX650F has especially gotten good reviews for that.
