But reality is, that there simply is not enough research or data on helmet profiency, and this research is not completely bulletproof.

Whether it should be legal or up to the individual to decide is one aspect of this topic. Another aspect is that because of the vast amount of manufacturers, who apply their own standards of testing, it is nearly impossible to evaluate which helmets work and which ones do not. In addition, all accidents are, generally speaking, completely unique, which combined with the sheer variety of helmets makes it nearly impossible to accurately determine how each helmet would perform in any given situation. Lastly, just because a law gets implemented does not automatically mean everyone will abide by it. Right, TJ?

Many motorcycle accidents involve another vehicle, which poses the question of whether motorists are just not aware of motorcyclists? Maybe there is indeed a strong need for more driver's education, both for motorists and drivers?

I don't think implementing a helmet law will solve all the issues with rising insurance costs, number of injuries, deaths or accidents, but I think it is a reasonable suggestion considering the current statistics. A combination with more license requirements, education and public awareness campaigns may prove much more effective than just a mandatory helmet law.

On another note, I got a chance to ride a 200 mile loop yesterday out to Piedmont on 34, then Ironton, Fredericktown and then 72 back to Cape. A beautiful day for riding and I snapped a couple of photo's as well. Here is one:

Vade, you familiar with the Hurt Report?

Here is a good summary.

Yes sir, I have made a point of including that study as well. Unfortunately, the Hurt Study is a few decades old and its findings are certainly reflective of that era. Beyond being outdated, the Hurt Study does offer some insight into the world of motorcycle accidents. Alot of good advice has been drawn from this study and I'm sure we will eventually see a similar study as the attention on the motorcycle community continues to grow.
Thanks for the input!

I am familar with the hurt report. I believe it was good for it's time (1976-1981). But, not up to date for the times. And most reports today are funded by insurance company's which is not independent studies no matter what they say.

Yes Free Food. Drur your not man enougn to ride both bikes at the same time? Your no Indian Larry sir just kidding.

well i guess i will put my two cents in on this helment crap we are talking about. first off if you dont wear a helment and are in a reck and i dont care who is to blame you shouldn't be given medical treatmant to your head. the rest of your body ok. i dont feel that my tax dollars should go to your medical bills because you made a choice to not wear a helment. great you dont want to wear a helment then don't but if you get all jackt up don't ask for me to pay for your stupid ass choice. people on bikes have to many other issues to worrie about and then you want to add some more things to the mix. sorry i don't belive it's your choice in this matter. this is why we have laws so stupid people have something to go by. if we didn't have laws people would be driving 100mph in front of schools and down city streets just because they could. you have to have check and balances in every thing you do to some degree. this is how i view things. if you dont agree then piss off. sorry that one was just for fun lol.
