06 r6 shifting issue

Hi All,
helping my buddy work on his 2006 r6. the bike will not shift easily, and the shift lever feels "sloppy". There is really not any tension on it at all. When you kick up from 1-2 it's very loose, and difficult to go much higher than 2nd.

I've checked: clutch cable (just in case there was too much slack presented) but the issue is prevelent when doing RPM shifts too.

I've also checked linkage. Seems to be OK (nothing obviously wrong). He explained the issue arose when his foot peg became loose, and fell "off" the bike (really just hung by the linkage).

I'm still suspecting a linkage issue, but I don't know what it would be exactly since everything is connected and intact. any ideas?
