There must be something otherwise everyone would have one. In my quest for the perfect sport bike the aprilia tuono is pretty much at the top of my list. All day comfortable, with proper sport chassis underneath.

the cbr 954 was hondas last of the comfy old school sport bikes with a comfy padded seat, and clip ons with a significant rise to them, and a reasonable stretch from seat to pegs. Tons of power with 150+ at the engine, and race inspired handling.

Isn't this basically the perfect street sport bike? i still want a tuono tho....lol

Still for me, lightweight and flickability are the attributes at the top of my list. Especially on the street, muscling a heavy bike around traffic, parking lots, etc doesn't sound as nice.

Now I agree that a bit of relaxed ergos is great, but there are plenty of bikes out there that give you both now. I guess what I mean is lightweight and comfortable aren't necessarily mutually exclusive.

370 dry. Not heavy at all, but i've never ridden one, maybe it feels heavy?

Theres not many bikes out there that are all day comfortable, with that kind of handling and power.

focused in what way? please dont say handling...

I'm in the relatively small group of people that think riding a modern day sport bike (see: race bike with turn signals and a head light) is completely ridiculous. Even my old school squishy zzr600 can keep up with any modern 600 in the twisties at sub knee down speeds. The basic fact is having something that focused on the street is ludicrous, comfort and driveability make a great street bike not knife sharp handling.

My good friend has a 2001 929RR, which is basically the same bike. VERY comfy, but VERY light and flickable.

The 954 looks better, has more power, better handling, and a couple less pounds. It's toward the top of my list if I was going to own a japanese liter bike. I LOVE those bikes.

The suspension is undersprung, though.... like all bikes of that vintage. So with some gold valves, new springs and whatnot, it would be VERY nice.

I think everyone should have every bike re-sprung for them. I think the 954 has to be one of the best fully faired sport bikes ever built.

954 nice and smooth handles well comfortable but ..... bland ..speed does not feel like speed .Servicing can be tricky and time consuming... pillion comfort not to bad .
Tuono mad as a box of frogs want to come out every corner on the back wheel ..high and mighty long legs are useful .Servicing easy enough no major difficultys . Pillon comfort .. some kind of torture.

there's nothing wrong with the 954. I enjoy riding mine and it is comfortable, except your nuts are pressed up against the tank. The front springs are light, but they are also progressive, so I'm not sure the excepted rules for setting sag apply. Compression and rebound damping works fine for me on the rear shock

I don't think the clip-ons are raised more than any other sport bikes i've owned. They still suck for slow speed stuff. Anyone who hasn't ridden a bike with higher/wider handlebars, doesn't really know how good it can be, sad.

The rear compartment space is huge! I can fit 2 12oz cans of coke and a bottled water in there.

The guy that owned it before me weighed 250lbs. Not sure how he could ride it without bottoming out.

What about a SV1k? Just sayin.

More relaxed than a full sport bike, twins are wonderful on the street, can get it faired, naked, or in between (like mine), LOTS of interchangeability with GSXR parts, fully adjustable suspension, and will still hold it's own on the track with the modern supersports (at least through group 3 of 4. Holds on the straights with 600's, not so much with the liters).

I need to re-spring, but I'd need that with any other bike. If you want razor sharp handling, $500 will get you GSXR front/rear, and raise the forks 5mm through the triples (still need to do this before next trackday).

I had an SV650 that I put a racing rear shock on and GSXR front end. Sadly, once that was done it was no more comfy to ride than a GSXR. Handled better than one, I would say.... but it became impractical for the street.

GSXR forks with a custom triple to run a handlebar like the naked SV's, and you'd REALLY be on to something, though.

I also had a set of TL1000S clip ons for it, which I never put on. They raise the bars up about 1.5", which might have helped.

This is what I did with my 650r, zx6r front end with LSL top triple with handle bar mounts, and a penske on the back.

alot more better...

more could be modifying "alot" which should be "a lot", instead of modifying better.

having a 929 i can say...

it is the best all round bike. trunk space is good ( not as good as the 929 though ).

good power, flickability.

once i hit 50 000 km's i have had nothing but charging issues. stator went on me 4 times in 1 year. 3 aftermarket, 1 oem slightly used ( and i changed the RR and the magnet along with it ). once the oem went, i gave up on the bike, left it in the garage as a future project and bought the 1198.

if you get the 954, get a corbin for it and you'll have no problems comfort wise.

I've had my 954 for four years now and absolutely love it. Light, flickable and good power. She really shines in the high speed twities. My biggest complaint is the stock seat delivers a mean case of monkey butt. I've been meaning to get an aftermarket seat.

i havent ridden all these bikes, but the 954 is a lot more track focused then a speed triple. The speed may have better components but it doesn't have the geometry designed into it to make it have the potential of the 954. A cartridge kit and springs done to both bikes and the 954 would be better.

As far as ergo's i love the old school sport bikes. If you're thin and have strong core muscles the high clip ons and low foot pegs of the older sport bikes truly is all day comfortable.

The 954 is supposed to have 150hp at the crank. My buell dynoed 131hp(146 crank) and the 954 feels like it has more power. 135rwhp seems about average for a stock bike and 145+ for one with full exhaust and custom map.

The bike is a bullet either way. I still prefer the Buell for really tight corners or around town stuff, but long rides, I like the comfort of the Honda.
