hard to grip tank with armor!!!!!

I finally got around to switching from jeans to a set of riding pants. They have armor in the knees and now I'm having a real hard time gripping the tank because it's in the way. Short of going back to jeans, what can I do?

The armor in the knees shouldn't get in the way of gripping the tank.

Yes having grip pads will help but perhaps your armor is installed incorrectly into the knees or something. Or you're really really tall and sitting really far back on the seat...what pants do you have?

6'1" and using Teknic Supervent pants (codura/mesh). There's no room/way to move the armor around, but it's in such a way that part of wraps around my knee not allowing my inner thighs to really contact the tank so I end up slipping all around (esp. under braking).
