However this happened, I am not sure. Either someone logged in on my account or someone that has been at my house posted this message. I did not write this message. I will try to find out who did. I apologize for any confusion.

Since your so concerned about people being "misinformed" you shouldn't go quoting incorrect numbers like these.

Can a mod check his IP to see where he's from?

There's a clipping for your scrap book. Horrible as it sounds, no-one was hurt so who cares? It's not like you didn't show up for your physical or anything....

The media is going to make it out like you're a bad biker and you need to answer it. You should go on the Today show and make your case to the public. Having you sit there and explain it like a rational human being is just the kind of thing everyone needs to see.

Oh yeah, scan that ticket in to the computer and post it for posterity!

This guy is the last person anyone with half a brain would want to go on the today show representing motorcycle riders in an attempt to defend his idiotic actions.

First, I don't think he represents all motorcyclists. Second, you ever see the Today show? It's not real news, it's "news Lite" they could do a segment like this and make it really educational.

This guy's the subject of the moment and people are going to want to talk about him? He'd fit right in. He could just talk about what he was doing, how he couldn't have been going that fast and how the cop must have made a mistake. He could talk about the dyno test and all that stuff. It'd be great TV.

Then they could get an opposite view point. Find some real law abiding cyclist to point out how bad he was for going so fast, but that at the very least he had on the right equipment. They could talk about all the good riders, the AMA and the MSF. Any chance to educate the public should be used.

Besides, if what was written above is by the real guy, he doesn't come off like a total dumbass at all. He's the kind of guy I'd like to hear talk for 5 minutes in the morning. Even people who've never been near a bike are going "205? Whoa!" If I was a TV producer, I'd love to snap this guy up - it's really topical.

Yeah, if you are the real person, you should scan in the ticket. How fast were you really going then?

Couple of questions for 205mph...

Where on 61 did this happen?

Have you had any response from, or talked to the Flood Run organizers, and do you think the air cop knew about this Run and was tarketing it?

You must have been passed by other riders after you were pulled over. Did any of them stop?

I didn't think there were enough open roads down there with adequate sight-lines to run that fast. I'd be a hypocrite to criticize, as I've opened it up occasionally myself on freeways or county roads with good visibility (there's a nice stretch on the way to TI Casino), but my recollection is that 61 is pretty twisty and full of adjoining roads and driveways. I could be wrong, though.

Regardless...bummer that you were caught. Get a good lawyer and fight it. Gauging speed from the air with a stopwatch is highly subject to error and you should be able to get the speed reduced significantly. Either way, however, you'll probably be stuck with a big fine and high insurance rates for a while and you'll have to watch your speed for a few years.

It's still a great story though...and that's worth something.

I think some media exposure would be beneficial if only we could get the producers to be fair. Highly unlikely.
For me, the key topic of the story should be the accuracy (or lack thereof) of police 'guesstimates' of bikers speed. If the cop in a plane could be that far off with an eyeball measurement, how many other tickets given that way were invalid? If i had gotten a ticket in MN by a plane, I'd be after the cops because this episode proves the fallability of such eyeball estimates.
That should be the focus of the biker rebuttal. Cops are taking stabs at our speed and writing tickets based on pathetic guesses. No way was an RC51 without a turbo or NOS and a regearing is gonna do 205.

So while yes, it is negative press for us because of the insane speeds on a public road (hey dude, the only reason I haven't done 180 on the road is because my bike wont do it, so no bashing from me) it gives us the chance to turn it around on them. They are painfully off in the speeds they try to pin us for (using that method, we're screwed with a laser or radar).

Here in CO Springs, the city passed noise laws. But they don't want to pay for noise meters, so it's up to a cop to guess whether you're too loud, and you to somehow prove otherwise in court. Yup, you read it right. THe cop can write a ticket if he THINKS your exhaust is too loud.
Didn't know cops ears (or eyes) were calibrated by US Weights and Measures.................

That's lame dude.

205... good luck, get a good lawyer. I have a bike that can do 180 mph, and I do go 180 mph when conditions allow and I'm in the mood.

You shut your mouth right now. Shut it and never open it again.

j/k man. Anyone else wonder if the cop might have spotted this bike zipping along and decided to pad it a little just to make things interesting? Maybe I'll start it a hair late and end it a smidge early... wow, 4.39, wait 'til the guys hear about this one. Maybe I'll even get on the news... Offhand, I'd say he's got to be within +/- .3 seconds on each end of the calculation. Even if he made that much of an error in the wrong direction TWICE on the same speed measurement, that only drops it to 180, still well over the RC51's top speed, assuming this guy happened to be going top speed when the cop tagged him.

It's just a hell of a coincidence, if it was an accident. Bike going top speed when it hits the trap, and two large measurement errors in the same direction.

It's kind of like the assault weapons thing. If someone wants to go to the range and knock down 30 bottles with 1 pull of the trigger fine. Just don't try and tell me you have an AK-47 for hunting or personal protection. It's so you can say you have an AK-47 and can go to the range and blow the hell outta some targets.

When you say you have an AK-47 for protecting your property you sound like a crackpot. When someone sites personal protection I picture some 16 year old kid cutting through a yard sneaking home getting blown away by some nutcase in cammies. There's nothing wrong with having an AK-47 cause you like to shoot one, it's just that people seem to think they have to assign some kind of great purpose to it. And come off looking foolish.

And for the record I am not at all anti-gun. But I am a realist.

TO answer some questions this happened about 5-6 miles south of Wabasha on 61 heading towards Winona. I haven't talked to the flood run organizers, however the officers did say they were there because they knew the event was taking place and they have had a history of "excessive speeders" on the last stretch down to Winona. And while we were on the side of the road, I would estimate 200-300 bikers passed us, but no one pulled over. And in response to Merlin509, there are some decent steches on that road, but even if my bike did do 205, I personally wouldn't feel comfortable. And the stretch down to Treasure Island you are talking about, one of my old roomates was killed on that road earlier this year.

And on the subject of this stopwatch calculation, you have to sit back and think, and believe me I have done a lot of this, about human reaction time, the fact that he was running two stop watches and flying his plane at the same time, his degree of angle on my when I crossed the hash-marks on the road, plus depth-perseption. I really do appreciate everyones feedback on this, and I will keep everyone informed.
