Nonfango Saddlebags

I'm posting this because I've gotten a few emails from users looking for hard saddlebags and asking about mine, so I'm putting this here for easy reference.

What kind of saddlebags do you have on your FZ-6?
The saddlebags in my avatar are Nonfango TTLs. They were not distributed in the US at the time I got them (August 2004) and probably still aren't. I had to get a friend to buy them and ship them from a German shop (Zweirad Grisse); you could do the same or maybe try Twisted Throttle. Also got SW Motech mounts for them -- pics here.
Did you paint them?
I did not paint them, and there is no need -- they match the "Liquid Silver" FZ-6 perfectly. You can paint the silver part to match the slower blue FZ-6, if you must.
How much did you pay?
About $560 grand total for the bags and mounts. They were a bit pricey but that was due in part to the unfavorable exchange rate. Yet the dealer did give a discount. I am very happy with them and have no regrets about them or the Motech mounts.

Given the expense, I worried whether I would really use them that much. I supposed my tailbag could suffice most of the time and that I'd only use the saddlebags on occasional long trips. But it turns out I use them on almost every ride. Then are incredibly handy. I've relied on them so long they seem like a necessity, not a luxury.
Is there something similar available in the US?
Your other choices in the US are Givi, Hepco-Becker, and Krauser. Here's one link; Google for more. Krauser's hard saddlebag is called the K4.

Nonfangos are also distributed in the UK. Probably any EU nation for that matter. If you have any friends or relatives in Europe, you might be able to get some assistance obtaining them that way.

You could also email [email protected] and ask them to direct you to a US source for their products, or ask if they will ship directly to you from the factory. If so, you need to decide whether to also get their mounting hardware in the same order or get SW Motech mounts separately.
If you have more information on good sources for these bags, please add to this thread. Thanks!

You aren't kidding. The first few times out on recently slicked roads I intentionally took the bags off. I did not want to risk them performing that function until I was a little more confident on those winter rides.

Speaking of taking them off, someone has asked for pics of the SW Motech mounts so here they are. The whole point of these mounts is that you can remove them almost as easily as the bags themselves, with just a big screwdriver (or a quarter in a pinch). With the mounts removed there are only 4 metal mounting tabs visible on each side of the bike (2 by the rear peg and 2 off the fender), restoring the bike to its stock look.

Please pardon the winter mess on the bike.

MrVvrroomm asked if the SW Motech sidebag mounts could be used with a Givi top case. My best guess is not, because it appears the Givi top case mount may attach, among other palces, to the same bolt that is used to mount the upper forward tab of the SW Motech mounts -- and they would almost certainly interfere with each other. If anyone can post a pic of the Givi top case mount where it attaches near the rear peg then we can find out for certain.

That was a low blow!
lol
I washed mine before it went into storage...got a little dirty on the way there, but nothing serious. I'd gladly wash my bike today...that would mean I had actually recently ridden it. lol

Excellent post. Thanks for the pics. I need to contact twisted throttle and see if they know if the two racks will interface or if SW makes a top case rack.

Thanks again,

After looking closely at the pics in the Givi side case thread I change my mind -- the Givi top rack ("Monorack") doesn't appear to interfere with the SW Motech side mounts. See white arrow in pics below. But definitely, get the dealer's final word on it.

You like my tan hugger pigrat? Looks like the chickens have been roosting on it. It'll be 40 F (4 C) tomorrow so she'll get a much needed wash then.

This is totally random (but I followed al ink here).

Your license plate....DV DT...I'm burried up to my eyeballs in calculus right now. It wouldn't have anything to do with derivaties, would it? dV/dT=acceleration?

I was wondering that myself... good idea really. Maybe I'll get "dx - dt" which would be geek for velocity.
