$900 Craigslist Bike/Build Thread

How’s it going everyone decided I would share my project with the forum. I haven’t been on a bike in 6 years due to some medical issues I’ve been dealing with and I haven’t been on a Sportbike in over ten years. I wanted something cheap to get back into the swing of things with that wouldn’t kill my bank account and I wouldn’t cry if it were to get dropped. I found a 1999 CBR 600 F4 that I am in the middle of bringing back to life. She cost $900 and I found her on Craigslist. I have been waiting until some progress was made and I got a decent amount of pics and vids to share before starting a thread. I’m not going to be going balls to walls full factory restoration on this thing just refreshing it and reusing whatever can be to keep cost down. The bike is kept at my best friends house in his shop and we are doing all of the work ourselves. We decided yesterday we’re gonna do the paint ourselves too on my bike and how Gixxer that is almost done as well. He’s been refreshing his gixxer over the last couple of seasons. Anyhow yesterday we picked up the front wheel from getting a new tire mounted and I got the calipers back on the bike which I primed painted and clear coated and got the new EBC pads on and the brakes bled out etc. I took her for a short ride and man is she a blast to ride. Soooooo light too compared to the Harley Baggers I was riding for the last ten years. This thing feels like a scooter that hauls ass lol. Bike came with an old Jardine RT One slip on that we chopped down to make it shorter and I put new exhaust packing in it before we riveted the pipe back together and hit it with paint. Oil was changed with filter coolant system was flushed and refilled and brakes have been serviced. I ran a quart of fuel system cleaner through the bike and it idles much better now and no more black stuff coming out the bike when you rev it. My new plastics will be in this week as well as some other odds and ends like grips and bar ends and clutch/brake levers etc. This bike was suffering from not starting because the busted diode on the bottom of the ignition. Previous owner bought a cheap ignition on amazon and it does not work because it doesn’t have the diode on it. I’m gonna see if I can use the remnants of the old ignition with what is good about the new one and make something that works if not I’ll just buy a used unit that is functioning from eBay etc. so enough of my babbling and time for some random pics and videos
