I have the Blk/Gry suit with perforated front venting. It's the only color in this model so equipped. Excellent suit for the money, with lots of features normally found on higher priced suits.
GP armor throughout. Back protector pocket. Knee pucks. Removable liner.
Suit is ideal for track days and general riding. Fairly comfortable for standing or walking around, yet really nice when on the bike. Fits me very well for an off the rack suit.
The 3M reflective logos are a nice touch for the occasional nighttime ride.

This review is for a black one-piece GPU suit non-perforated. Let me start off by saying that this suit gets a 9/10 from me because even at the MSRP the suit is an exceptional deal. You get all of the same basic functions and qualities of top dollar suits for a bargain price. Alpinestars hit a home run with this budget-minded suit. I actually prefer it over some of their much more expensive suits in style and comfort, even though I am still breaking it in.
The Details:
More and more I find that the good Lord has not only a sense of humor, but also a great sense of irony. I had planned to write this review based on only a general riding comfort with the suit, but a decreasing-radius, off-camber corner riddled with gravel had other plans for me and my new rear tire that hadn't been properly scuffed in at the edge. Basically, that turn had all the right elements for doing a thorough safety equipment review. Lucky for you the reader, not so lucky for the poor bike I had to sacrifice in the process.
The GPU suit is somewhat of a revelation. It has a nice fairly slender fit for guys like me. One doesn't even notice the hard armor with the suit on. And, it looks pretty damn sharp as well. Off the bike the suit gives me a front wedgie and is uncomfortable as any proper fitted sportbike suit would be. On the bike, it feels great. I have noticed that many of the Alpinestars suits like the GPU have strech material in the crotch like the GPU, which was a glorious idea on their part. It makes the suit much more comfortable and flexible for different rider shapes. Sticking a knee out isn't nearly as restrictive as other suits I have tried. The fact that this suit doesn't have perforations is actually also very nice. Most of my riding is done in say 60 degree weather so perforation really isn't needed. Also, the suit has built in padding in the upper back, which is reassuring. And, being new leather it's a little stiff though it is breaking in nicely after a few days.
So on the the good (or not so good) stuff. When I low-sided my bike I saw it coming a second away. I was only going say 25 MPH and when the ass end began to wobble and slide I caught myself momentarily by pressing down with my right knee slider. But, since there was no run-off I opted to give it slight gas and try to make it stick. Needless to say, it didn't stick, it slid right out. Probably a combination of a new rear tire, and gravel and dust all over the place courtesy of the DOT for some strange thing called "traction." Rather ironic isn't it? So anyways, the tail of the bike kicked out from under me and I ended up sliding on my back down the street for say 10-15 meters. It was a very soft fall and when I hit the tarmac it felt about like a slip and slide, gliding down the street watching my bike slide a good 30 meters showering sparks from the grinding titanium and aluminum. My helmet never touched the ground thankfully, and my Teknic gloves merely got an abrasive cleaning job here and there.
So what happened to my new GPU suit, I bet you are wondering. Well, I would post pictures but there was barely even the slightest scratch on it so there's no reason to. The soft armor in the hips and double-layered leather in the seat worked just as advertised. My only gripe was a bit of a sore back, though not even a bruise, and that's probably partially due to picking up a 400 pound bike. But, I will definately be adding a back protector before I go out riding again. I had plans to buy one anyways but this incident had a funny way of speeding up that process. A back protector essential equipment that is a bargain when you consider the consequences. The leather suit is also a bargain in this respect. Had I been wearing jeans not only would I have gotten nice bruises but also a nice helping of road rash on my ass. My dates never would have forgiven me.
For anyone who wants to ride sportbikes at any speed and any place leathers are essential. For the vast amount of budget-minded riders like myself the Alpinestars GPU is a great choice for a leather suit. It's not perfect as most things aren't, but I don't think it gets any better for the price. Just don't forget to add another $100 bill in there for the back protector, you will not regret it.
PS - Oh, and did I mention that is has reflective logos? A lot of $1000 suit don't even have that. I ride at night sometimes so I really appreciate this feature.
