I recently purchased a new Yamaha R6 and as a sales person that sells all four major Japanese brands I had the
opportunity to try all the 600 and the GSXR 750 prior to making my choice. The primary reason for my purchase was a bike that would spend 50% of the time on the track and the rest of the time as a daily rider . The plus factors for me on the Yamaha were as follows, suspension, ergonomics, brakes and blistering performance above 10K RPM. The down side, this bike is tall I am 5' 7" and can barley get to the ground and this is no beginner bike (if a 600 is going to be your 1st bike go with a ZZR600 or Honda 600 F4I). After putting 350 miles on it now I have come to realize that this bike is just so predictable that I can ride it as fast as either of my Ducati's (998 & 998s) through any turn in only a short period of time to get acclimated with it. It is truly an awesome bike that gives an experienced rider plenty of confidence. The fit and finish and overall workmanship are excellent. I made the following changes prior to turning the bike loose , I dropped the front sprocket size one tooth and installed the GYTR pipe.
The gearing change did effect the top end but makes it allot more fun at the bottom end and the GYTR pipe is the best bargain for a pipe on the market ($249.00 for Carbon Fiber). Oh if you do add the pipe plan on wearing ear plugs as this thing screams like an F1 car once you get above 10 grand. I must say my Ducks seem to be spending more time in the pond and less time in flight now that the R6 is in the garage. Ride safe, Dean
