On Saturday, I mounted up a set of Metzeler's new Sportec M-3 supersport tires. On Sunday, I loaded my bike into my truck. On Monday, I stuck to the track like glue thanks to the traction provided by these tires.
So far, the only riding I've done on these tires has been on the track riding. I was riding very aggressively (I'm no racer though) on less than perfect suspension and these tires held firm all day long in 90 to 95 degree temperatures (the track surface was surely significantly hotter than the air temperature).
I just finished off a set of Michelin Pilot Power tires before this and I believe I do prefer the taller Michelin profile for quicker turn in but the Metzeler's never actually disappointed me in this area, they just weren't quite as fantastic.
There was one incident during the day when I lost traction (I was attempting to pass on the outside of a rider who was passing on the outside of another rider all while in a hairpin turn!) but the slide was predictable and smooth and quite easy to recover from. The loss of traction was also entirely my fault for trying to pull a fairly technical manuever at a high speed and without much room for error.
I'll report again when I've seen these tires through their tread wear life but for now, I'd certainly recommend these for track day use.
