2006 GSX-R1000
MSRP: $10,999.00
Dealer Cost:
In 2005 the GSX-R1000 re-wrote the rule book for liter class supersport bikes. For 2006 the flagship GSX-RTM is poised to blow away the competition. Boasting works inspired technology and class leading performance, the biggest GSX-R combines incredible acceleration with razor sharp handling.
The newest generation of GSX-R1000 features an engine that produces more horsepower and torque than ever, with quicker acceleration to match - both from a standing start and in roll-on blasts through the gears. It's also been redesigned to shave precious pounds, making it a phenomenal 8.8 to 28.6 pounds lighter than its closest rivals. Its light weight along with completely refined suspension front and rear give the GSX-R1000 the edge needed to Own the Racetrack.
To own your piece of the track in 2006, there's only one choice: the GSX-R1000.

Best damn sportbike, period. I rode an 05 for about 4 months then switched to an 06 for the last 6 months. God like power, and easy to ride. Low seat height (good for me). Footpegs are too far forward for me. It made me doubt the purchase of my 05 999.

Pros:
|
Light and really nimble
|
|
Cons:
|
rearsets too high for tall guys, seat SUCKS, pushes you into the tank when heavy on the brakes

Coming off a 2000 'Busa this thing seems like a toy. Light as a feather, and almost as fast as the 'busa. Corners like a dream, great clearance. Brakes seem awesome so far, but haven't got it on the track yet. Only complaint is the supid wings on the rear cowl, the wired in turn signals on the mirrors (tough to disconnect for track days) and the seat. Geometry of the bike combined with the seat throws you into the tank on hard braking, no matter how you grab the tank with the knees. Going to try a new saddle, looking for suggestions.
Other than that, this is an awesome liter bike. I've got an '06 CBR600RR and the Gixxer handles almost as light as the RR, despite the longer wheelbase and less agressive rake/trail.
