Pros:

Inexpensive, styling, lightweight, soft & removable liner.

Cons:

Shield fogs up in cold weather riding
|
|
I love the helmet and for the price I paid was well worth it.
Liner is fully removable and the material is real comfortable and soft. Lightweight so it doesn\'t feel heavy after long rides. Love the looks and graphics.
Wished shield would be more fog resistant like what I have heard of Scorpion helmet shields.

I got mine in plain silver a little less than a year ago. I have to say that this is the most comfortable helmet under $200 that I have ever worn. The removable liner is a plus. Every place that has this helmet for sale adds that the faceshield might flip up on the highway if you have it cracked. I\'ve never had it happen to me. And, if it happens to you, KBC will fix it for free. The shield latch system is solid as far as I can see. The faceshield removal system is easy to use, but it\'s fairly tight. Overall, best value for the money that I\'ve seen.

I\'ve been using my KBC VR-1 since August \'04 and overall I\'m very satisfied with it. It\'s a bit on the heavy side but it\'s very comfortable. I\'ve got a little over 4k miles on this helmet, including commuting to school and some daylong group rides. The liner is easily removed and washable. I bought an extra smoke visor and have never had a problem swapping the shields. I also had 2 minor low sides in this helmet and it did it\'s job very well. This is my first helmet so I don\'t have much to compare it too but I believe it\'s a good \"bang for the buck\" helmet.

Even a properly fitting VR-1 feels big to me and feels like it weighs twice as much as my other helmets weigh. For the price, it\'s okay.

Let me begin by saying this helmet, for me, has been proven in the real world. Each year at the end of a busy tax season I treat myself to two days on the race track. This year on the last session of the last day some guy on a Buell XB12 lightning thinking he is Valentino Rossi tries to take me on the inside of turn seven at Beaverun, clips my front tire and down I go at such an angle that I smack the back right quadrant of my helmet violently on the pavement. This helmet with out a shadow of doubt in my mind saved my life. While such an impact left me unconscious I know this helmet did it’s job. I replaced the now destroyed solid black one with the red/blue from Motorcyclecloseouts.com for a mere $99.00. The helmet is great. Good cooling, washable interior, quality construction and proven protection.
I have some great pics of the actual helmet that was crushed if anyone is interested.

I rode a Silver VR-1 for about a year. Venting was OK, visor was easy to change. Padding was comfortable.
Aerodynamics were OK in a tuck. They SUCK when you attempt to head check. It feels like the helmet was being sucked off my head. It's not the lightest lid on the market by a long shot.
I had a large, it was too loose. A medium was WAY too tight. Curiously the wifes TK-8 in medium fits fine, so the VR-1 uses it's own shell shape.
Upgraded to a Shoei X-Eleven. Medium fits me perfect.
Going from the VR-1 to the X-Eleven helped me to understand your helmet is NOT where you want to skimp. The X-Eleven is so good I forget I am wearing it.
