Wreck at Dragon
For those that do not know -- Dragon is a road famous to motorcyclist (318 curves in 11 Miles).
Also, for those who do not know--Photographers set on the curves taking pictures to be put on web sites hoping to sell the pictures to the riders.
Dragon eats a lot of motorcyclist . Many are inexperienced curve riders. Dragon also eats many playing Race Track Wannabees. (picture below is an example of that).
I am guessing the guy (video above) may have been inexperienced, at least inexperienced on this road as it looks like an out of state license and he had travel luggage with him. Or, he was just a victim of a bad decision to divert his attention by waving at photographer. Waving at the photographers, went wide on the curve, and panic set in when he saw the car (could have swerved hard right and missed the car instead of straightening up and running right into the car-- believe me that is easier said than done when the panic situation happens). I do not know how he came out -- guess some injuries. May not have not been too bad as he had a lot of clothing on. Could be his face hit the ground right at end of his first flop and with open faced helmet - that would hurt.
Anyway, that reportedly led to Another Serious Crash by another guy that hit the oil from the first wreck. Apparently, the second crash was by a guy that rides very fast and is a very experienced good rider (picture below) and is 63 years old local rider. He is in really bad shape - Broke about everything from the report I saw - neck, back, skull, need face reconstruction if he survives. Such riding belongs on a Race Track (and I do not know if he was riding fast when he wrecked, I am just guessing he was).

Jay, I'm not sure. I got that email from a friend of mine who goes on a trip with me down there every year. It was one of the guys I was with when I met you.
I posted it because I find it completely unbelievable that someone could be such a dumb-ass and put so many other people on the road (in addition to themselves) in danger.

People on here like to say that semi-trucks on the road are the main problem.
Honestly, you shouldn't be going fast enough to where a semi is going to run you off the fucking road.
The main problem is fucking inexperienced idiots waving at people, and guys who are trying to go WAY too fast when there are other people on the road.
I fucking hate that place. It's not even fun... it's just 318 accidents waiting to happen. In one run-through I saw 12 people cross the center line.
Sorry, but the whole road should be shut down, honestly.

Thought they banded multi Axel vehicles from there after last year's fiasco.
Most of the ppl I talk to say to ride the road around the area. Less traffic and still just as twisty. If my trip to wv wasent soggy the Mt roads up there would have been awesome.

There are lots of roads around the area that are a lot more fun to ride (and just different rides) than the Dragon, but the Dragon is also a pretty awesome road.
It is dangerous, there's no doubt about that. Riding on the highway (or driving on the highway) is dangerous too. Getting out of bed is dangerous. Life is dangerous.
I say be as safe as you can be, but if riding the Dragon is something you enjoy doing, do it. You only live once.

Thanks in all of my years of riding there, I have encountered the same thing over and over. Mostly the cruiser crowd all over the road. Not paying attention to whats in front of them or behind them. Most of them aren't very courteous with letting others by. There to busy fighting those heavy bikes in the corners. During my trip at the beginning of October I encountered a group riding 36 mph on NC28, the speed limit is 55mph. No skills get off the road!!

The oil this tard spilled all over the road was not cleaned up properly Later that same day another rider got seriously hurt when he hit the oil and went down.
Now this rider who was a regular I'm sure was going too fast. It is a dangerous road..
